Mai Sushi is in my opinion the best place for sushi in london. It is so fresh and delicious and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. At the same time it is not as cheap as other restaurants that serve sushi but the quality of what you get served is what makes it so reasonable.
It is a small restaurant which is often full with Japanese diners (a testament to the fact this restaurant serves beautiful Japanese food), single diners and my personal group of friends who are frequent this establishment. We often order 5-7 plates of 'crunchy tuna' in a sitting. You must try this is if you haven't already!
It is a very small restaurant so there is a slightly slower service in comparison to other London restaurants. However it is wonderful to dine in a restaurant in London where for once you do not have waiters hovering over your table waiting for you to leave so they can fit in their next group. You can actually take time to savour your food (which is put together with such care and precision)and enjoy the company at your table.
If you're looking for plush surroundings that creates a buzzing atmosphere often found in London restaurants then it's best not to go here. However if you want authentic and fresh Japanese food that never dissapoints then come here. I couldn't speak of it highly enough!
Hi,
The service here excellent, very friendly and welcoming.
In terms of sushi experience I have to say it was a bit Tim Henmanish, almost there but not quite. The wasabi was hardly noticeable, the soya sauce lacked depth and the fish was fresh but tasteless.
Its not run by Japanese people they are Chinese, which might explain why the food lacks the true Japanese understanding of how things should be.
My partner and I head straight for Mai Sushi every time we are in London. It's friendly, cosy, incredibly reasonable in price and serves absolutely delicious soup, sushi, tempura and more. I cannot imagine why anyone would pay more when this wonderful place exists. I have eaten Japanese food all over the world including Japan and this is some of the best I've ever had. Sensational!

I had lunch at Mai Sushi after reading the reviews on this site and I was NOT disappointed. The food was terrific and the service was very friendly. My friend and I started with miso soup and a shared mixed tempura (4 prawn, 4 veg - very easy to share). The soup was perfect and the tempura was light and flaky and cooked just right. The presentation was lovely as well, with the tempura sitting on top of a very decorative tempura noodle fan. We both had sushi for a main and everything was fresh and flavourful. My friend had green tea ice cream to finish, which she said was delicious. We also ordered green tea when we first arrived, and the pot was continuously refilled throughout the meal for no extra charge. I highly recommend this restaurant. No complaints or constructive criticisms to offer.
I found Mai Sushi's restaurant are relaxing and friendly service which was great experience that I would recommend to you.
The sushi and sasimi was tasty and delicious and also the foods there was vaule for money.
It's between Euston and King Cross station and within spitting distance to the hotel that I stayed which was easy to find.
I went there on the 12th of Jan at the behest of a friend who well knows my penchant for quality sushi, not the "Yo! Sushi" genre.
Boy, was I impressed. The seafood is fresh and tastes amazing, apparently due to the chef getting it from Billingsgate Market himself, instead of getting it delivered by some 3rd party supplier - "greater control of quality", i was told for the reason and well it shows!
A great and interesting menu - I'd not seen some of the combinations before but they worked very well indeed, the yellow tail and jalapeno sashimi, for example was addictive - couldn't get enough! That and the soft shelled crab maki were my favorites for the evening out of the excellent dishes I got through.
The portions are generous, and reasonably priced. Before we knew it, my companion and I were stuffed to the rafters and having to admit defeat before we exploded!
Surprisingly, the bill came in at only a little over £65 for two including drinks - I was expecting a lot higher considering the amount we ordered.
I read with amusement that an average spend is under £10 per person. I suppose it is possible if you have super human will power, but honestly, the food was so more-ish i couldn't stop ordering again and again!
I will definately be returning as soon as I can work out how to curb my ordering enthusiasm!
