There is not really much around Walworth Road that looks too appealing for having a good dine out (mostly there's Jerk Chicken and Kebab places...) and when my partner and me passed by Mama Thai, it was completely empty.
Usually not a good sign, huh?
But we decided to give it a try as we were totally not in the mood for greasy chicken that night.
I thought it was strange you either have to bring your own alcoholic drinks or they get it for you from an Off Licence close by, however their drink menue offers an interesting variety of non-alcoholic drinks.
I ordered the Cremissimo Fruit cocktail and it was tasty and fresh.
The food was good,
we ordered Spring Rolls as a starter, Soup Noodles, Spicy Seafood Stir Fry and some Yellow Rice.
Everything tasted quite nice - but the Soup could have been more seasoned and there were some parts in the Stir Fry which maybe isnt supposed to be eaten - but was hard to sort out and put aside.
The rice was very tasty.
The price was very reasonable.
All in all I would say it was nothing special but still tasty.
3stars from me.

One of my favourite restaurants. I lived in the Walworth area last year and was at Mama Thai at least weekly. The prices are excellent and the service is great and the fact it's byo makes it even better value for money. I would advise avoiding the starter menu and going straight into the mains.
The dishes are all great and among my favourite are the spicy Bali curry and the marinated fish. Wherever you are in London Mama Thai is definitely worth a visit.
I don't think this place gets enough credit. I wish there were more places around that has such consistently tasty, fresh and cheap food.
The curries are as good as the salads which are as good as the side orders (especially the brown rice).
Fresh juices. BYO, so take your own vino etc, but great watermelon juice. Service is always outstanding.
Highly recommended.
This food is so delicious, so nourishing and created with real heart !

13 July 2009. We just came back from Mama Thai and had to write comments. This is a little hidden gem and would recommend it to anyone in the area.
For someone who doesn't like spicy food I even had an extended choice and went for the grilled duck.
My boyfriend was loving his Massaman curry... apparently the best one he had in a long time!
The service is top notch and even though this place doesn't look like much from outside, the food is delicious and they are the most friendly people!
They do now do take-away and would deliver for orders above £15.00
A great restaurant on Walworth Road to add with La Luna - an Italian further down the road.
