I walked past this bar and initially I thought it was some pretencious resturant but I couldn't see any table waiting staff but there were a fair load of people inside, so I went in to have a look. Very nice a spacious at the front, it opened out into quite a nice space, with funky semi-circle sofas, it was kinda swish. I met up with my buddies and we decided to have a few in Mash. To be honest service was pretty slow which wasn't helped by a large large group of people hogging the bar area, so you had to fight to get to the front and get served, but I put that down to London arrogance, and that's coming from relocated Londoner. One thing that I thought was wicked was that at the far end of the bar they had a glass wall and behind that was what can only be discribed a brewing area. It looked different and kinda added character to the place. First round that was bought was a JD and Diet Coke and a Pint of house Lager.... cost £9.10... so you weren't gonna be getting drunk, but that said, I haven't been out in London for years and my guess is, that price is par of the course, maybe I should stop going to JD Weatherspoon Pubs.... I would say this a great place to start your evening as they do have a restaurant and the food prices looked reasonable. I did notice from the corner of my eye they had a rather nice DJ set, I'd love to use the equipment they had set up. Out of 10, I'd give this place, bearing in mind I never ate or stayed for the DJ, 7 out of 10. Marked down due to drinks prices and some of the seats weren't ideal for us larger set people. It's a beautiful bar for beautiful people.
Went to Mash Bar last Saturday and although I didn't stay very long the music rocked! Loved the combo of hip-hop, R&B and retro that was played. The talent wasn't so bad either:) Would recomend it for sure. In fact I have, and plan to head there this weekend. It would be better though if there was an actual dancefloor and a few less seats!
I loooove Mash. True it may be a little run down, however, I think the food is great, the cocktails are amazing and the music. especially later on, is perfect. I just got introduced to Mash last week and I've already been back three times!
The staff at Mash are really friendly. It was dead when I was there, but maybe that is down to the fact that everyone has had their share of drink and are now too busy with the sales. Mash did look a bit like a flash coffee shop or a posh fast food joint.
I would like to check it out again when it's a bit busier. Also, I loved the seventies photos with the weird jealous onlookers whose faces have been painted on top of the picture.
I celebrated my birthday at Mash last week and had a brilliant time. I brought down all my work colleagues and close mates to party with me. The DJ played a variety of music and kept my people dancing. The drinks were a bit expensive but that’s West End for you.
The crowd was cool due to fact I got with some hot honeys who were up for a big party. Shout out for Julian! All together Mash on a Friday smacked it and I am hoping to party there for New Years Eve.
Mash has the best burger in London. Great vibe and lovely staff. Mash is highly recommended.
Mash was the perfect end to an evening of celebrating for a friend’s up coming wedding. The food was delicious and plentiful – and I have a big appetite. The staff were attentive, helpful and friendly.
It was a mixed age group ranging from 28 – 65, and we all had a good time. The only criticism about Mash was that music was a little too loud, but it was a Saturday night…
I happened across Mash on Saturday night having left SIN and its crappy RnB and pissed people after about an hour. There was a small queue and £5.00 entry at about 12.30am and despite the bouncers having a bit of a barney with someone outside and turning people away for being male, we got in.
Mash is quite a small venue but well decorated, clientele were the type who went to the pub straight after work and then ended up in here, so older and therefore more relaxed. Music was belting out some great house tunes and the atmosphere was one of drunken revelry, which was great to either people-watch or join in.
I wouldn't make a special night out of it but if you're stuck for somewhere in the West End that doesn't cost the earth, it’s open 'til 2am, is not full of too many young people and has decent music.
Mash is so funky, I just love going there at the weekend, kicking back and relaxing. Play @ Mash looks set to be wicked too, I'm sure I'll be down there again soon!
Friday nights are great at Mash - they have a new night there called Miami Calling. The music was good, fun dance music. Will be going back to Mash again - definitely!
I visited Mash bar last night. The bar downstairs was busy but the bar guy went out of his way to find us seats upstairs in the restaurant, even though we were just drinking.
In the end I did end up eating at Mash as they had a great deal on, steak pie and a pint for a £10.00. What more could I want?
Staff were cool, friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back.
Mash is average, simply average. Good music but way too loud. The drinks aren't badly priced either. The problem with Mash is, there is actually too much seating, believe it or not. So once people start to try and dance, it gets tough. Wherever you dance, you'll be in someone's way who just wants to get past to the bar.
I didn't get the chance to explore the upstairs bar/restaurant although it did look funky from what I could see. Make sure you have a mixed group and guest list entry too!
Mash is a really good place to go if you want to chill at the bar or just dance the night away. They play good music on Saturday nights - RnB and hip hop music. Good stuff!
PS. I hope the doorman didn't get into too much trouble last Saturday at Mash for trying to help me because I was quite drunk. I was told by my friends that he was really sweet and helped me where he could and how he was getting a bit of grief when he was only trying to help. Sorry for any inconvenience!
This is a brilliant place - seems to be on a different foot since we last came in here after work - the vibe was great - service bright and DJ was excellent - and after 11pm it is free unlike other places in the west end... haven't heard music like this out in ages (aretha, motown, jacksons, soul) - why don't more places listen to what they are doing here - it seems like they know what the crowd actually wants to hear than what is brand new in the record shops or in the charts... call me old fashioned but it made the night so much better not to be annoyed and overpowered by the music and on top of that - they even had amazing, attentive table service - perfect for a group or after work...anyway just to say we like this place and hope others discover it again...thanks
I went there on Saturday night and I must say it has changed quite dramatically - the place was unnaturally crowded and the people seemed about 10 years younger than last time I'd been in...not a bad thing. To start out with we had a round of their own beers, which thay say they make there [can't verify because it looks pre-bottled] and the bit behind the DJ box looks untouched. The bar staff and door staff are average too - no problems. The good things - in fact the best things - were the DJs - one fat one and one moody one dressed in a black track suit. The mix was amazing and had the whole crowd jumping along - and what was unusual is that the DJ went from the clash to Outkast to George Clinton to the Police - followed by "sound of da police," almost every good song you'd want to hear - and the fact that on Saturdays the place is absolutely free and is packed with very cute girls - you couldn't dream up a better night in the west end - where you're more likely to hear a jive-bunny style RnB mash up that is basically RUBBISH - and you'll get charged 10 quid for the privilege. Anyway that off my chest - Mash on saturdays is a wicked experience - different from the last time and definitely worth a trip into town to hear...good fun.
I persuaded a friend to go to Mash last night - he wasn't keen, having had bad experiences there in the past. We got in and were served by a seriously surly barman, who was as rude as you can be without actually spitting at someone; he served red wine in a dirty glass, the own-brewed beer had a horrible aftertaste, it was £7.40 for a glass of wine and a beer and funny dusty ash stuff was falling out of the air-con where we were sitting. I had to concede defeat and we left after one drink. Poor.
I went to Mash to celebrate a birthday with 12 friends, one of whom is a wheelchair user. The staff were confident in dealing with our needs and the venue was fully accessible. Food wasn't great as they had run out of steak for main course. Atmosphere was okay but a little clinical and not too intimate.
Mash is quite a good place to end the night - £35 for a bottle of champagne certainly isn't extortionate - and the atmosphere was pretty laid back.
I did find the staff somewhat patronising which potentially make me think twice about going back.
Worth it if you're in the area but don't go out of your way.
I always have a good night when I go to Mash, I don't know why I bother going anywhere else frankly. The crowd are really cool and laid back, no pretentions at all. Drinks are well made and cost about average for the area. The DJ plays some great stuff on Saturday nights, but I would suggest you leave if he starts on his Bettie Boo mix, it stays in your head all week.
