The ViewLondon Review
Open since 2003, Masti is an Indian restaurant and a glamorous club, allowing you to drink and dance as well as scoff some excellent Asian food.
The Venue
Positively glowing with hazy, luminous light of various colours, the club is positioned on two levels. Enter from street level to the restaurant and bar, where large groups are sat around the big tables or up at the bar. The restaurant floor overlooks the lower dancefloor level, equipped with a serious bass-heavy sound system and yes, even more lights.
The Atmosphere
Masti evidently caters mainly for the younger end of the big Asian population in the area, particularly given its music policy, but it feels like anyone is welcome here. Those attending seem to be going for special, full on celebrations rather than a casual bite and a drink.
The Music
Big on the Bollywood and Bhangra styles, with resident DJ Bass Inject playing from Thursday-Saturday, as well as live music from the Dhol Players at the weekend. It's loud, brash, and a breath of fresh air for clubbers in search of something a bit different from house and Top 40 chart fodder.
The Food
Fairly standard Asian cuisine dishes include chicken tikka masala and lamb rogan josh. Go in a gang, order lots of plates to share, and you can try a bit of everything. Prices are reasonable by London standards, with a set meal costing as little as £10, even at the weekend.
The Drink
Not a huge range, but with Foster's, Stella and Strongbow on tap for pretty much pub prices, plenty of cocktails and a list of 10-15 wines in the £17.50-£20 range, there's little to complain about.
The Last Word
Welcoming, friendly, but suitably wild once it warms up, Masti is a place to push the boat out in style - without too much expense.
