In Maze, if you show up off the street, you pay £25 / person, vs. £48 / person through Travelzoo. Don't tell me that the complimentary welcome cocktail is worth £23. Stuffy atmosphere, with about 4 different people waiting on you. Great wine selection, with a sky-high margin ($20 bottle of Cali Zinfandel sold for £53). Presentation of food - excellent. The food quality was marginal -- Typical Hell's Kitchen deal (make 200 copies of the same dish on a Charlie Chaplin assembly line and server as fast as possible). The best thing was the pork belly (actually, it was perfect, complimented by apple foam). Pea soup - good. Very refreshing with a tiny hint of herb I cannot identify (not mint) and a faint hint of star anise in the background. Duck breast - ok, but tough to cut through with your knife. Beetroot puree was ok, if you like beetroot. But what the hell was that weird endive-like looking vegetable at the bottom of the dish? It was so acrid and sour that it made my mouth pucker for the rest of the night. Salmon with shrimp dressing - very rare on the inside, almost instantly sending my party to the restroom. Chicken gelatin with foie gras - not bad, just the foie gras probably never heard of a duck or a goose before, because it was so damn bland! Hazelnut parfait was great (even though it was not a parfait, but rather hazelnut gelato -- no fruit, gelatin and other parfait ingredients were present), if only some madman didn't ruin it by topping it off with a blob of cherry sorbet so sour that even a dog would stop barking after it. One of the snooty waiters (with French accent) asked - is this your first time at Maze? To which I replied in pure Castilliano: "esta es mi primera vez (y la ultima vez tambien) en este restaurante". I got a puzzled look back.

Thank you all for taking time to write a review

I just cancelled my reservation at Maze. I am sick of tiny portions at good restaurants.

I think that owners are laughing their socks off at our stupidity.

The 'concept' of Maze is fairly well published, so what a foolish thing to write. The point of small portions is to have extremely high-quality food which is very rich, leaving you full and satisfied but not bloated. Think of sushi - small portions, high-quality fish. Maze is an excellent restaurant. The food is delicious and the service extremely attentive and polite. Their mains aren't that small and as far as I'm concerned they're perfectly proportioned. I normally have an extremely large appetite, but I was very satisfied with Maze's suggestion of two tasting-size starters and one slightly larger main.Frankly I think viewlondon should take your review down for giving a restaurant 3* even though you've never been there.

I always have a wonderful time in maze. I have been there three times (my birthday dinner, my fiance's birthday dinner and lunch with my mom) and maze never fail to meet your expectation in terms of food and service. Dinner was beautifully decorated and the taste is just spot on. Lunch was nice although I found a bit odd to eat half-cooked risotto which is the way it cooked at maze according to the people working there. But the way the people entertain you during the dinner and their attentiveness to the customer's every wish are super and it makes me feel that we shall be back again. I definitely recommend and it is surely worth visiting.

We were at maze on saturday 2nd of oktober. It is a trendy place that is vibrant. We all ordered THE chefs special. 3 out of The 7 courses were great, but THE others lacked a special touch and dissapointing. A group that hired The chefs room made à horrible noise, singing abba songs and walking in and out on bare feet, shouting. Not the ambiance you would expect at à restaurant like this. In The end there was à mistake in our Bill. Staff was friendly.

Very nice indeed. Looks great, smells great, service second to none and food is sublime. The only thing letting this place down is the booths with two tables in them. When another couple sat next to us I felt as though it was a double date! Otherwise a fanastic experience.

As a restaurateur myself, and after a lot of 'research', I have concluded that Maze is my favourite restaurant, not just in London but in the world. Yes, it's that good! I literally cannot fault a thing in the four times I have been. We always go for the tasting menu, 7 courses. The skill that goes into these dishes is just unbelievable, and you just savour each mouthful. You don't want big plates of food, there are 7 courses for goodness sake! By the end you are so pleasantly full, but not in that 'stuffed to the brim/can't walk home' way you can be after a massive main meal. Each course is a taste sensation! The service is unbelievable, and very hard work i imagine serving 7 courses. The cocktails are spectacular - try the fig sours. My favourite dishes were the Squash velloute with corn puree and the 'peanut butter and jam sandwich' which we actually ordered another one of because my partner was so jealous! Last time we went we saw Ramsay himself, talking to the table next to us. And we were invited for a tour of the kitchen when it was revealed I was a chef myself. As for the lady who reviewed here saying her 'lamb was too raw' - if you want rubbery,over-cooked lamb I suggest you don't go to a michelen star restaurant!

I visited the restaurant on the 26th of July along with my partner.
The restaurant is pretty, the service is excellent but the food was not impressive...
The portions are just enough to get the idea of each dish and were enough for me and my partner. They are well presented, but unfortunately it seemed like the chef's need to impress took over it all.
We had the Chef's menu 7 courses option.
I had the Chilled pea veloute with goat's curd, elderflower and parmesan parfait which is pea soup with a teaspoon of goat cheese at the bottom, with a small roll of sweet parmesan ice cream. The dish was too salty and tasted like it had too much leek in it, although it was not described on the title.
For the second course I had the Marinated beetroot, Sairass cheese, pine nuts and Cabernet Sauvignon dressing - beautifully presented cheese nestled between thin layers of beetroot. I personally don't like beetroot but the combination of the cheese, roasted pine nuts and the vegetable was amazing.
For third I had the Assiete of Sandwiches BLT - awful dish! A jelly of smoked bacon which takes over all other flavours. Wrong texture and flavor.
My partner had the slow cooked quail & marinated foie gras - the texture of the foie gras wasn't right - too creamy and sickening.
The forth was the Cornish red mullet, rice in sardine and saffron stock, roasted pepper puree and paella air - the fish was good and tasted fantastic with the red peppers and black olives (not original but at that point it was very refreshing). Now the paella was something else - a Spanish person would be insulted. It is a tiny portion of rice topped with raw whisked egg whites - it was tasteless and just wrong!
For fifth I had the slow poached lamb - to me it was a bit too raw, but my partner loved it. The stock was fantastic and so as the mint hollandaise. The potato mash was creamy and rich.

Overall - a nice experience, but the food was disappointing. Will not go back - no value for money.

Five of us went for a long post Christmas lunch there and we were blown away by the food: tasty, delicious, surprisingly subtil... but YES the portions are ridiculously TINY and yet the price is high for them. I think the best way to experience the variety of dishes is to try the gourmet menu where you get to taste quite a few of the dishes ( tiny I repeat) but it is preferrable you are selfish and do NOT share them otherwise you'll leave the place still hungry. The service is first class, but can be a bit in your face and a bit OTT: 3 people around the table at the same time, pouring us water etc.. feels sometimes annoying and intrusive. I can pour my own water, thank you! Also you do get first class service but my god.........they all look so STIFF! you need to relax and SMILE a bit... it would make everyone more relaxed and the meal more enjoyable.

The Maze restaurant was very disappointing. Their starters are for one and you are told you need to order five or six items. Oh yeah because they don't even are enough for one. Then after an hour and your main coarse doesn't come they indicate that they never had your order. WELL, if you expect Gordon Ramsay level of perfection you WONT get it at this restaurant. Very disappointed and even without getting a main coarse it cost over 120 GBP.

If you go to Maze and you want a bit more of an intimate less formal service, then sit at the bar, and order the taster menu, where you get little titbits of the a la carte menu. The portions are small - but like the tardis - amazingly adequate. The flavours are so rich and sumptous, that any more would spoil it - like eating a whole box of Belgian chocs in one go. The service is impeccable and the cocktails are works of art - and very delicious. Maze is just a'maze'ing and we will definitely be returning.

I have to say after the hype I was expecting more of the food at Maze. Not because the ingredients are not top quality (they clearly are) but the menu is rather inaccessible to someone such as myself who is allergic to fish.

Almost everything on the menu was composed heavily of fish, and of the few dishes that weren't I found that other unusual ingredients put me off (e.g. snails).

As such I had to ask 'off menu' and was very happy with the result. My steak was cooked to perfection and they withheld the snails, much to my stomach's grateful relief.

However I do think that the mark of a truly good menu is one which caters to all tastes, and like the other reviewer I agree that the atmosphere at Maze is rather downbeat. Possibly because the location means that the bar is solely used by people waiting for tables rather than passing trade, and as such lacks the vibrancy that one might otherwise expect.

The waiting staff were excellent, although at one point the waitress actually wrestled a bottle of wine out of my grip as I was filling my empty glass, which I thought was a bridge too far in terms of obeisance to customer satisfaction training.

A good effort. A more accessible menu would encourage a repeat visit, but if Maze persists in the fish theme I will have to continue to pass.

The maze menu is nothing more than a tasting menu. If you are looking for a meal forget it as there isnt anything to that resembles a meal.

Gordon Ramsay proves yet again with Maze that he is a veritable magician in the kitchen. The food at Maze is so good that you'll find your fellow diners in raptures.

I've never seen a group of people so excited about a meal out. Top stuff, Gordon!
