Used to be good food and good service but has definitely lost its spark.

Went there last weekend for breakfast and the food had lost its original freshness. It used to be just cooked, now it seems to be partly recooked.

Went there this weekend for lunch and had salmon fishcake with the rocket salad. The fishcake was more potato than fish and was only warm not hot on the inside. The rocket salad was hidden under the fishcake and of very meagre proportion.

Service is now lacklustre which I would like to blame on the weather but the way the staff mope around the place smells to me of something wrong in the back of house.

Med Kitchen was always overpriced before but with good food, they now only retain the first part of that reputation.

Mary Celeste quiet at 7ish on a Monday. A dour soundtrack of David Gray-alike accompanied with twinkling bells gives the place a weary charm.

Decidedly not old, with dark oaken floor, padded bar, the Mediterranean tilling on the wall gives much needed authenticity to the place. The lighting is reminiscent of 1920s look that Browns always goes for but never quite achieves.

Shadows of leaves dance on the amber windows. Due to the miracles of physics their silhouettes are disproportionately huge giving the impression that at any moment an angry Ent may burst through the glass, enraged by the amount of wasteful printing you do at the office.

Had chicken and lamb with mash. Sauces were excellent although portions were not large enough to feed a hungry Viking after a hard weeks looting and pillaging.

Wine from twelve of your English pounds upwards.

What struck me most about Cafe Med was how charming and accommodating the staff were. My partner and I ate there last night. We sat by the cosy fire to escape the hail outside. The atmosphere was so relaxed and the staff so welcoming we whittled away quite a few hours in this cosy venue. Such a contrast to the mania of bars and restaurants on Upper Street nearby! Cafe Med is a bit of a find and I shall certainly be back.
