Although Mia Rigo looks like nothing more than an Italian sandwich shop, you'll be pleasantly surprised by your meal.

The Venue
The entrance opens into a front area with a sandwich bar opposite which are displays a variety of fine Italian products, including some of the most exquisite, connoisseur’s choice olive oils and balsamic vinegar. The seating area in the gallery behind is an eclectic mix of swanky lights, ultra modern furniture and sofas, making it look more like a mini living room than a restaurant. It makes a nice contrast with the traditionally Italian deli in front.

The Atmosphere
Al Pacino is rumoured to have eaten in this place, no doubt attracted by the sign proclaiming that it is 100 percent Italian. Mia Rigo is tiny and pricey and probably puts off a lot of people who wouldn’t want to risk paying a lot to eat a little at this fine deli-cum-cafe, but they're missing out. The staff is almost entirely Italian and a pleasure to chat with.

The Food
This place probably has London’s largest selection of sandwiches, with a different sandwich per region of Italy so you choose from a variety of breads, cheeses, meats and fillings hailing from each of those regions. Even a plate of parmesan sprinkled with balsamic vinegar is an utter delight because only the finest quality ingredients are used. The pasta is a revelation. Perfectly al dente and utterly, utterly gorgeous whether it's in a simple butter sauce or a more adventurous walnut cream sauce. Only the desserts aren’t always up to the mark, although, the homemade biscuits served with coffee are wonderful.

The Drink
This is more a fine delicatessen than a fine dining restaurant, so don’t expect an elaborate wine list. The cappuccino and hot chocolate are great, though, so skip the wine and go for those instead.

The Last Word
You'll find Mia Rigo’s passion for fine Italian food contagious when you visit this place.
