Word on the street is that Mohsen is the best Persian restaurant in town, and the food definitely makes it deserving of its fine reputation.

The Venue
A newly refurbished dining room and the cutest garden room complete with aviary outside have given the old Mohsen a new lease on life. Try and book a table in the courtyard garden, which is a take on interior courtyard gardens in the Middle East.

The Atmosphere
Persian hospitality is famous and here is no exception – the staff and patrons are all very friendly. This is a laid back, Middle Eastern welcome at its best. Feel free to linger, you won’t feel rushed here.

The Food
In one word, wonderful. In fact, there are as many takeaway options as there is on the regular menu, so they do a great trade with locals, tourists and passers-by alike. There are rituals to Persian food that are just as fun as eating, so be sure to ask the staff for pointers. Mohsen offers a very good value way to entertain at home, as you can pre-order rounds of kebabs and accompaniments and pick them up in time to pop them in your oven before your guests arrive. Portions are huge so you’ll have very happy guests.

Mohsen serves delicious chelo kebabs, rice and meat combos that are beautifully spiced, as well as outstanding specialty stews like khoreshte gheimeh (lamb and lentils). And the bread, oh the bread! It’s freshly cooked in a tandoor oven. Be sure to try the Persian spiced sumac which is on the tables to zing up your rice, it has a unique lemony intensity. Butter is also served with rice for you to mix in as you want. Fresh herbs and cheese accompany starters, a traditional gesture. Zuleibya and bamiyeh are sweet and tasty ways of rounding off satisfying meals.

The Drink
To accompany your meal, try doogh, which is a delicious yoghurt drink. If you’d like something alcoholic, be sure to bring your own as they don’t have an alcohol licence.

The Last Word
Don’t miss out on this place – you won’t get a better Persian meal in London.
