Perfect for dessert or an original lunch, head to My Old Dutch to stuff yourself on pancakes.

The Venue
My Old Dutch Pancake House is fairly large and spacious, with high ceilings and calming yellow walls. The wooden tables and chairs give off an old fashioned, hearty vibe, which is complemented by the porcelain plates lining the walls.

The Atmosphere
The staff at My Old Dutch are a friendly lot, although service can be a bit slow even when it’s not busy. Typical punters include local Holborn lawyers having lunch meetings and families of tourists who’ve wandered in from Covent Garden.

The Food
Those unfamiliar with Dutch food shouldn’t worry about deciphering the menu, even some of the food occasionally sounds like it’s come out of an Ikea catalogue. Everyone comes to My Old Dutch for the pancakes, which are divided up into sweet and savoury. Portions are enormous and unless you’re absolutely starved you probably won’t be able to finish. If you go with a friend, split half of a savoury pancake so that you have room for a sweet one for dessert.

Savoury options include the four cheese pancake, with mozzarella, halloumi, gouda and cheddar – kind of like a pancake pizza without the sauce – and chicken curry, which is just spicy enough and comes balanced with a sweet mango chutney, creamy yoghurt and basmati rice. As for the sweeter side of things, the traditional favourite is with sugar and lemon, and if you don’t fancy any of the options on the menu, take pancake creating into your own hands and make your own.

The Drink
Keeping with the theme of the restaurant, drinks are along the lines of Dutch beers like Grolsch and Heineken and Belgian Hoegaarden, and fruit-flavoured beers perfectly complement both the sweet and savoury pancakes.

The Last Word A good alternative to typical sandwiches or burger and chips lunch fare, My Old Dutch Pancake House should please local Londoners and visiting Dutch tourists alike.
