I have never experienced anything like this!
After being told that we could only sit at a table with two chairs, not four despite the fact that there were about 10 free tables, we ordered two coffees and chocolate muffins. It took 15 minutes for the coffees to turn up and then after repeatedly asking we finally got our muffins. They were completely rock hard, you couldn't even break them open with your hands. We pointed this out and were told that they were vegan muffins and we should have known what we were ordering before we asked for them. I told the waiter that as a vegetarian who had eaten vegan food many times that I had never experienced vegan food to be rock hard before, to which he responded "but you are drinking a latte with milk, therefore you are not a vegan, how do you know?"
We then asked for the bill, only to be charged £1 extra for our coffees. On enquiring as to why it was because they were "large coffees." Basically we were charged for the muffins that we did not eat.
Disgusting service and disgusting food. As a vegetarian of 27 years I am horrified that other people may experience this and think this is typical of vegan/vegetarian restaurants. Avoid and go round the corner to Food for Thought for quality food and service.
Horrible food and really rude manager.
I ordered Cheese bruschetta with tomato and olives, my friend ordered the vegan pizza. When they arrived my "bruschetta" was actually slices of cold, soggy french stick about 5mm thick topped with tomatoes. I asked where the cheese was and was told the bread had cheese in, it did not say this on the menu. Bruschetta is supposed to be warm toasted chunks of bread topped with olive oil and tomatoes. What was served to me was nothing like this.
The vegan pizza was just as horrible. The base looked more like a cracker than a pizza base, there was a cheese substitute then what must have been an entire can of sweetcorn covering every inch of the pizza topped with 3 slices of tomato. There was no tomato sauce on the base and the whole thing was salty and disgusting.
We complained, the waiter refused to do anything besides warm up the bruschetta, but I didn't think i could force myself to eat it. We asked to see the manager but the waiter said he was too busy to come and see us (despite there only being customers on about 5 tables). So we went downstairs to him. He was really rude and kept telling us we should have complained right at the start of the meal, telling us that we cannot complain at the end of the meal. He was really defensive and just started shouting at us. He also said that the vegan pizza was only suitable for vegans as it is quite dry. My friend is vegan so this did not make much sense.
In the end he demanded that we pay for the whole meal, which we did. I intend to research customer rights as I think they may not have been upheld in this case.
I would advise everyone to NEVER GO THERE. Go to the vegetarian restaurant Food for Thought around the corner, it is much much better.
On a previous occasion I had had a very nice chocolate cake, so was looking forward to my meal. However, one of my group got served before me despite arriving later. I later discovered that this was because he had been given my main course! I was served with his main course, which was tasteless. By the time I realized this it would have been too late to get a replacement. I told the waiter, who did nothing. When I got the bill I asked that this mistake be taken into account in what I was charged. The waiter said he was unable to help me. I asked to see the manager, but was told by the waiter that I would have to go to him. When I calmly and politely explained the situation to the manager he interrupted me, refused to listen, talked over me and told me that I should have noticed that there were no beans on my plate. He was very agitated, angry and rude. I would certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you are vegan the available options are very limited and this no longer includes the chocolate cake. The meal came to nearly £20 for 2 mediocre courses and a drink, so is also very poor value. There are lots of vegetarian eateries in the area that understand the concept of customer care, so don't waste your money here.
I come here regularly for lunch - so many options and friendly service thrown in too!
