having read the reviews I was hoping it would be as good as described. the pressure was on as i had told a group of friends we should go there before a burlesque evening.
result - very happy. it was great with easy going staff, extremely tasty food, service was fast and very reasonable. byob. great place, recommended. lamb chops starter was exceptional. our friend shaker maker said "it was the best indian he had ever had". recommended - it was busy also ;0) but didn't need to wait.
The Lamb chops are fantastic - amongst the best I've had. However the Lamb Samosas, Seekh Kebabs and Prawn curry were lacking in quality and flavour.
I don't expect a healthy meal when going for a curry, however I think it would be reasonable to expect more actual curry than oil in a dish.. Our curry was literally swimming in a pool of oil and every spoonful onto our plates had to be drained of excess oil.
For a busy place, can't complain about the service as it was quick once we were served, however I've never been given hot towels before I've finished my main!
An average experience - would go back for the lamb chops and other grilled meat, not for the spicy oil.. I mean curries.
In a word: awesome. No more Brick Lane for me; no more any other curry house. I went with two friends on Thursday evening; shortly before 8pm, no reservation, seated immediately. The laminate menu is not explained, but the waiter was very helpful and answered all questions with a smile, and really looked after us in a very friendly way all night, without being insincere or over the top.
The food itself was great; fresh and hot, aromatic, better than run of the mill and definitely varied and authentic.
We ordered samosas, the appetiser mixed grill, lamb kofte (Thursday's special), a lentil and aubergine dish, rice and two naan, mango lassi and tap water (which kept getting replenished without asking, thankfully, as the food was quite fiery) = £32 without tip.
Have already made plans with two different sets of friends to go back.
