New World offers a unique Chinese dining experience because there is seating on several different floors and the restaurant can cater for several hundred people at once. If you like dim sum this is a good place to try even if you already have a favourite dim sum restaurant.

The Venue
The facade to this restaurant is impressive and promising. Red lacquer and gold lettering beckon in large parties and families wishing to eat Chinese. The restaurant is very spacious inside and is almost always packed full of people. When you arrive at New World, like many Chinese restaurants, a queuing system is operated and you are required to take your ticket and wait your turn in a very overcrowded lobby.

The Atmosphere
Busy with speedy service is the name of the game at New World. The atmosphere is bustling because the restaurant is usually full. Red lanterns hang from the ceiling and efficient waitresses attend to every table. Surprisingly, however, the restaurant is not too noisy and it is a pleasant environment for good conversation with your fellow diners.

The Food
Dim sum is served the classic way on trolleys, which staff wheel by your table with rapid speed. The portions are very generous and there are all sorts of dim sum dishes including a variety of flavoured pancakes, dumplings and buns. The only problem with the food at New World is that, although there is a good variety and the service is good, it does not taste as fresh as it does in other renowned dim sum restaurants.

The Drink
As with other types of oriental food, it can be enjoyed without wine, although a selection of wines is on offer. Other drinks include mango juice, apple juice and, of course, jasmine tea.

The Last Word
If you're spending time on Shaftesbury Avenue, in Soho or in China Town and want to eat out with a large group of people then New World is a good choice. However, quality is sacrificed in favour of spacious seating and brisk service.
