This is probably one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten in. The service here is worthy of Stalinist Russia with surly staff and the food more or less being thrown down on the table. We went as a family group and even though it was a week day and the restaurant wasnt busy our server couldnt raise a smile. The dim sum were tasty but that was all.
They even made a mistake with our main course and chose not to take note when I told them.
The decor is pretty bad and the toilets - well they were disgusting. I will never ever go back!

Last Chinese New Year (2007), I was introduced to this restaurant by a Chinese friend. The service and food was good. I went again in the year with another Chinese friend and retained my first impression.
However, this Chinese New Year (2008), I went with a group of non-Chinese friends to whom I had recommended this restaurant. It was very embarrassing. The waiters ignored us, it took forever to get a bowl of steamed rice (I had to demand for it in a loud voice) and one waiter was even downright rude! The other waiters who had observed this, looked shocked, but tried to excuse his behaviour by saying "he is crazy". I understand that as it was Chinese New Year it was a busy day, but this is no reason to be rude to paying customers. Our complaint about his behaviour was not taken seriously.
It seems that you only get good service when you go with Chinese people. Never Again!

Ok, just avoid New World on a Sunday. Maybe it's busy because no one watches HeartBeat any more, but it is busy - believe me.
On my last visit to New World on a Sunday we queued for 40 minutes!!!

I enjoyed the New World experience immensly but I can really understand some Western people being intimidated by the constant and in-your-face service provided. If you're going on a date and you want to talk, this is not the place for you as the only communication you'll get in between eating will be along the lines of "yes i'll take some prawn toast please" and "may I have another bottle of saki?".

However, if you're hungry and in a rush the service is very convenient as you can eat immediately. In my opinion the food is delicious- the lamb dumplings are superb - obviously you have to be partial to dim sum or chinese grub. Chinese can be ordered but the dim sum is shoved in your face throughout the meal.

All I can say is try!: Its a fantastic experience
