love it! my fav, more than Berkeley
Good food, attentive service, great atmosphere!
I was taken to Nobu for my Birthday this week as a surprise! Well the location was impressive from the outside but I have to say that was it. We entered the restaurant and was greeted with a Japanese saying which was nice. However, whenever anyone enters the restaurant all the staff shout this Japanese welcome which really starts to get on your nerves after a while. After being bugged by the waitress to order drinks within 2 seconds of sitting down I knew I wasn't going to enjoy Nobu. The menu was too detailed (around 5 pages) and for anyone who has not tried Japanese food before there is no explanation as to what the dish is. For starters we ordered some Tempura which was very bland indeed (deep fried). We ordered our mains which to quote the waitress, 'was Nobu's world famous Black Cod'. When this dish arrived, which cost £35, it was tasteless and soggy. Not to mention it was served on a leaf with nothing else i. E rice etc. We also ordered the creamy spicy shrimp as a main which was tasteless, the 'creamy sauce' looked like melted cheese and there was no spice. We decided not to bother with desserts and left £100 lighter which by the way was only for 2 soft drinks, 2 Tempura starters and 2 main dishes. It was a deeply disappointing evening, not to mention a total waste of money. We left feeling hungry and had to grab a pizza on the way home. I would never eat at Nobu again. By the way they also slap on a 15% service charge which is meant to be optional as they know you are less than likely to ask them to remove the charge. The type of people Nobu attracts are very snobbish! If you're looking for a good meal at a decent price try Kenza near Liverpool Street, very nice! Avoid Nobu!
Disappointing!
I had the pleasure to dine at Nobu in both Las Vegas, New York and Milan. All 3 great experiences, which makes me wonder if this is really a part of the same chain?
Ultra snobbish personal. Unprofesional waitress who did not know details of the menu well. Serving dishes in reverse order, without even apologizing. Do I need to say more?
This is heavily overpriced for what it is. In fact you can find good Japanese restaurants at a 3rd of the cost, serving high quality authentic food. And even does it with a smile!
The settings are really nice though. Ambient and super nice interior and atmosphere. Unfortunately this means nothing when the team do not get the basics right!
I had a booking at Nobu, and arrived 7 minutes late and they let my table go - a disgrace! Staff need a kick up the arse - and when questioned the reply was "we are nobu" - basically they are god! Aqua is a brilliant place next to Sister Act
Nice setting, good ambience, good location for going out after eating, food is ok, but quite over priced for what it really is.
If you are Asian, or you know real Asian food / Japanese food. Don't waste your time at Nobu.
Their waiters / waitress cant properly pronounce their dishes and their WAGYU, which is what they are well known for, taste like a piece of horrible CRAP when you compare Nobu in Hong Kong.
This is a real scam for Brits / Europeans who don't know what REAL WAGYU is, and they tried and pretended that "it is delicious"
Tables / Seating arrangement my old days in my boarding house canteen! =D
Today it was my second time and nobu just disapointed me. The waitress brought a glass of merlot, the highest priced open wine, which was obviously bad. I requested to change the wine. However the SNOB waitress told me that i have to pay for the wine that i did not even drink! I paid it but there is noway that i am going to go to nobu again!
Arrived at Nobu hoping to go to the sushi bar but reception staff told us it was full so sat us in the restaurant...in a discrete corner...The decor is ok, the atmosphere is flat...class doesnt not necessarily mean a place should lose its lustre , as Nobu surely has...our food arrived and the staff were so eager to clear my plate ( 3 times ) before I had finished my meal...the food was ok, nothing amazing...and the service really needs a kick up the rear...!
Nobu was fantastic! The food was amazing, the best Japanese food I've had in a while, and I know good Japanese food seeing as how my family is Japanese. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive, our food came out right away. The cocktails were delicious as well. The decor in the lounge downstairs was beautiful.
For all of you who had a bad time in Nobu and think it was filled with a bunch of old ugly people, you went on a bad night or maybe you're the old ugly ones, because it was nothing but friendly great looking people.
It has been a dream of mine to experience the Nobu Cuisine and I was not disappointed! My husband and I had the pleasure of having one of the greatest meals ever! Everything was beyond perfect and the staff went all the way out. We sat from 7:30pm to 12pm eating some of the greatest dishes ever. I had the privilege of having the first cook book signed and now his new one signed as well. That in itself was worth it alone, but much thanks to Darren for giving us the Nobu memories I shall treasure for ever and again thank you to all the great staff and the tour of the Kitchen. You have no idea how you made a Canadian gal/chef so happy.
Nobu is living off of a celeb owner and a Michelin star.
The reality: overpriced, poor service and the worst Japanese food I have eaten in a long time. The kelp salad was so deeply bathed in dressing, it requiring drip-drying to make edible. Sushi/sashimi at Nobu were dry and poorly cut.
If you appreciate real Japanese food, go somewhere else. Leave Nobu to the rich and famous.
If you have ever been to NYC's Nobu you will be very disappointed when you visit Nobu London. The service is way below average - both in speed and hospitality and the food cannot justify the price. Bottled still water from Fiji might be fun for some but for £6? I am from Norway and even I was shocked. I guess it did not help when we were seated (after 30 minutes) next to someone else from Norway (Hello? We went to London to escape the boring Norwegians!). I won't recommend Nobu to anyone - choose Zuma, Sketch, Hakkasan, Spoon and/ or Asia de Cuba instead. Ps Tried the Met Bar afterwards... What a dull place! Don't waste your time!
Nobu certainly stood up to its reputation. I cannot recall another restaurant more packed with Viagra charged 60somethings and their dripping wet dates. I like raw fish, but that's another story... Nobu by name, slap you with a monstrous bill by nature...
I received simply the most outrageous and shamelessly incompetent and rude service on a visit to Nobu last Friday evening.
I am absolutely astounded by the fact that the waiting staff were so inattentive - that I had to wait patiently to flag them down and that they lacked basic courtesy and manners to apologise for grossly unacceptable errors which amounted to some pernicious catalogue indeed! You would expect a lot more than this level (or lack) of service in a restaurant in this league!!
The evening was marred by the following events:
1) someone else's food was brought to us by mistake - to which I was told - 'oh, they sometimes get the orders mixed up'
2) hair, yes, HAIR!! stuck to the breadcrumbs on fried quail - with hindsight I should have embarrassed them and said it out loudly rather than discreetly pointing it out to a waitress since she did not make the slightest attempt to apologise and simply took it away without as much as a word, and a replacement of the same dish was brought over a while later - which I obviously inspected thoroughly before trying!
3) The finale was that they attempted to charge for 3 beers as opposed to the single beer ordered - again, no apology was received for that ineptitude!
When a complaint was made to the manager, the same lack of remorse was evident. I should have deducted the 15% service charge because as far as I am concerned we didn't get any service or at least any decent service! My advice is don’t bother with Nobu London - it's not all that in terms of food and the service is completely atrocious!!
