When I go to a restaurant and spend £100 for two people I expect to walk away happy and fulfilled - unfortunately this was not the case at Notting Grill.

We arrived at the restaurant at 1830 for an early dinner and a bottle of wine. We ordered Bread/Olives, starters and main course.

We waited a good time then the starters arrived before the bread and olives and I was not very impressed by my deep-fried courgette flowers, a bit greasy unfortunately. My partner's steak tartar was ok, but would have preferred not having all ingredients pre-mixed. Then the limp crusted bread arrived and a few paltry green olives, before our main meal. I had ordered my Lamp chop rare, but was rather medium/well done. I was not asked if I liked mash or chips or something on the side so when the plate arrived with just meat, some mushrooms and bit of salad for decorating I had to ask for some additional mash. My partner had a steak and wanted it medium but also this one was also somewhat over cooked. He also asked for additional béarnaise that never arrived. The wine was good (even though we were brought the one for the one other table originally.

The funny thing was that the staff really was friendly and didn't give us any attitude. We couldn't figure it out. They just seemed "not with it" somehow. There were only 2 tables dining which we originally felt was due to our early arrival, but on reflection we gather there is another reason.

When we arrived at Notting Grill the staff were courteous and the atmosphere was laid back and comfortable. Unfortunately, that was is where the compliments have to stop.

When my steak arrived it was cooked just right, unfortunately it was one of the blandest steaks I have ever had the misfortune to be served. My partner went for the 100 day old chicken, which actually turned out to be some kind of sloppy stir-fry. Yes, we complained, but the waitress seemed unconcerned, she simply shrugged her shoulders and removed the uneaten food.

So to sum up, nice decor, poor service, food poor and over priced. Notting Grill might have been good once, but not any more. It is unacceptable to be treated customers in this way.

I was expecting good things from Notting Grill. We arrived and from the off the manager was very rude. He misunderstood what I was saying a number of times and made no attempt to clear it up.

Food not great overall. The venue was nice and waiting staff at Notting Grill were very nice, they even offered to buy a round off drinks as an apology for their manager.

I've never seen him at Notting Grill, but all the blurb says Worrel Thompson cooks here most weeks. Shame, 'cos I hate him, but love Notting Grill. That's life I guess!
