The best value for money Thai restaurant in South London, Oh Boy knocks expensive West End Thais for six.

The Venue
Oh Boy Thai is in an odd location just 10 minutes from Tooting Broadway, heading North on the busy Garrett Lane to Wandsworth. Even though it is very easy to find do not be put off by the surrounding area, tightly packed tables or the very typical Thai decor inside. First impressions may feel look a takeaway venue but fear not, it is worth stopping for.

The Atmosphere
Inviting and warm staff welcome you as you enter the small and cosy restaurant. The charm and intimate layout of the restaurant instantly makes you feel that you will have a great evening. Diners of all ages will feel at home with this laid back and friendly, low key vibe.

The Food
Superb from the offset, with a mix of very traditional dishes and local specialties. The menu is much bigger and more comprehensive than most small Thai restaurants, with good descriptions of each item. The evening starts with a large complimentary portion of homemade prawn crackers to give you something to nibble on while making the choice for your meal. There is a good mixture of meat and fish options, with the high points being the lamb curry and the huge prawn starter. The jungle curry is not too hot but has a zing and the fish is cooked brilliantly without disguising the delicate flavour. Every dish has clean and strong flavours to suit the timid to brave palate. Everything is cooked and presented with absolute charm, with delicate flowers on each plate, not forgetting the obligatory radish flowers.

The Drink
No wine is served, but you can bring your own bottle with no corkage fee.

The Last Word
Oh Boy Thai really shines. Maybe off the radar to compete with central London venues, but for those who live south of the river, this place cannot be faulted.
