The ViewLondon Review
Olivo offers traditional Italian and Sardinian cuisine at great prices. Whether you come for pizza, pasta or a meat dish, you'll probably leave wondering when you'll be lucky enough to return.
The Venue
The décor at Olivo is rustic and simple. Walls are painted yellow and blue, adding something of a nautical touch. Floors are decked out with rich, dark wood and tables are illuminated with ultra decorative light fixtures. Though the restaurant is on the smaller side and the tables are close together, it remains relatively quiet.
The Atmosphere
The tempting aroma of fresh pizza and pasta being cooked fills the air, and this smallish restaurant is buzzing with happy people who are being satisfied by delicious food. Wait staff are willing to make you a customised meal if you are looking for something other than what is on the menu, showcasing some true Italian hospitality.
The Food
For lunch there is a three course set menu for £27.50 or two courses for just £23. All pasta is fresh and homemade which really makes a difference in the taste and texture. Spaghetti ai ricci di marre (£16.50) is a seafood lover's paradise of spaghetti with sea urchins, garlic, and a touch of chilli. The pasta is light and fresh and the garlic and heat from the chilli go perfectly with the strong flavour from the sea urchins. Malloredus sardi (£13) is a hearty main made up of pasta shells with homemade sausages and tomato sauce. The thick, rich tomato sauce and meaty sausage complement the delicate pasta shells perfectly. For a delicious side dish try the deep fried courgettes (£4.50). They're soft and tender on the inside and lightly fried and flaky on the outside. It’s hard to eat just portion of these delectable bites, so make sure you order two, just to be on the safe side.
The Drink
You won’t go thirsty at Olivo. There are plenty of beverages to choose from including both Italian and Sardinian red and white wines, sparkling and desert wines, beer, juices, and soft drinks. Wine bottles range from around the £20 mark up to £100. The Sardinian house aperitif (vernaccia di oristano) for £5.20 is definitely worth a try.
The Last Word
If you've never tried Sardinian food or if you just love your Italian food, then Olivo should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
