This could be the WORST place u ever been. The tables they use seem never been cleaned before and the spoons are disgusting.

Also the tissue they use seems made of something dirty that u can never imaging!

I will never go to there ever again!

I went this restaurant last week and I still feel sick. It seems like they don't regularly clean the tables. You don't even want to touch them. I will never recommend this place.

This used to be one of my favourite eateries when I was a student in London 8 years ago. Great prices, free tea, delicious healthy-sized portions, nice no-fuss ambience.

I was in the area again recently and popped in for lunch after singing its praises to my girlfriend.

Sadly things have changed for the worst it would seem. The tea is no longer free, the prices have gone up, and the food has plummeted in quality.

I ordered a Malaysian chicken curry dish and my girlfriend ordered duck and rice. The duck dish was small and came with enough meat to fill a small child.

As for the chicken dish, it arrived some 5 minutes later and, although beautifully presented, consisted of about a handful of rice, half a dozen nuts, and two tiny drum sticks of chicken.

It wouldn't have even filled a small child. Both dishes were bland to the point of tasteless and deeply unsatisfying.

We left disgusted and insulted and headed to nearby Marks & Spencer's to buy some real food.

Speaking to a waitress some time after, it turns out Oriental Canteen changed chefs recently and the management began cutting every conceivable corner.

Noticed reviews go back some time. We have been treating ourselves to Malaysian dishes in this canteen during most of our outings to London. For the price we've been enthusiastically recommending it to all friends, however our visit there last night was very disappointing.
Portions greatly reduced, almost cold and the shredded duck was unacceptable.

If you want some cheap Chinese food, Oriental Canteen is your man. It’s not fancy, or anything special, but Oriental Canteen do good food at a good price – what more could you want?

Oriental Canteen is a tiny restaurant which lives up to its name as everyone comes in, grabs a seat at any table and orders 'the usual'. It offers economical, quick, tasty meals, but not a 'dining' so much as 'eating' ambience and because it is so small, it can be full at peak times. They often run out of popular dishes such as crispy pork rice which is disappointing but their menu, although not extensive, does offer a good selection of dishes to suit all palates. Check out the specials, and be aware that it closes before dinner for the staff to grab something to eat. Well worth visiting if you need a decent meal quickly for a bargain price in South Kensington.
