The ViewLondon Review
O what wonderful food and great prices at Os Thai Cafe, which is why it is one of the longest standing restaurants on the bustling Crouch End Broadway. The VenueNestled between a butchers and an estate agent is the unassuming Os Thai Cafe. The owner O, originally a fashion designer, has created a simple, stylish, canteen style experience that feels warm rather than clinical. Bench and table sets line the small restaurant although slightly uncomfortable after a long sitting. Customers sit on raised wooden flooring, although it’s not evident why, as very few seats are able to peer through the window to the busy street below.
The AtmosphereYoung and friendly staff eagerly take your orders. Food is brought out quickly with little fuss to unpretentious crowds of couples and typical Crouch Enders. Over the weekend the service has to be fast because of the sheer amount of people, occasionally queuing up outside, to get in.
The FoodA simple menu with a good range of specials on the blackboard every night. The rich but tender beef massaman curry, a mixture of coconut, roasted peanuts and potatoes, is slightly more expensive than the main dishes but still does not exceed £8.00. The Thai green curry is creamy and aromatic hitting every taste bud. Uncomplicated but gorgeous, the flavours of the food will not disappoint with each dish accompanied by a free bowl of sticky sweet rice.
The DrinkAn extensive and inexpensive wine list also offers Leffe, Budweiser and Singa beers. To clean out those toxins and aid digestion try their jasmine tea.
The Last WordOs has cleansed itself from the typical Thai restaurant experience of flowers cut from carrots or ponds of catfish to instead offer something fresh, flavoursome, simple and very reasonably priced.
