great food but terrible service and arrogant staff
I had eaten at Ostria Basilico last month and was impressed with the food. However, last night I was extremely disappointed.
I booked a table for myself and my family. When we arrived we were seated at a table next to the door. Considering it was the first week in March and the door was continually opening and closing we were extremely cold.
We asked to move only to be shown to a table suitable for two people- it was impossible to fit five plates on the table!!!
The staff were extremely discourteous and sadly it was impossible to eat at such a small table. Make sure you check that your table is not next to the door.
Went there on a Monday night and didn't know what to expect after reading the variety of reviews posted up here, but I am happy to say te restaurant was fantastic. Located in a stunning area on Kensington Park Road you can tell the restaurant is fantastic from the entrance. The lights are low and the tables are all beautifully candlelit. We arrived at 7 and it wasnt that busy but by around 8ish it had pretty much filled up (downstairs as well, which is just as nice). The food was excellent (as was the house red wine) and quickly served, and the waiters were very pleasant, polite, and very authentically Italian. The music was also very nice and not too loud. I genuinelly reccomend this restaurant to anyone.
well where do i start. first of all the average food was overpriced. Id have maybe understood given its location but what really got to me was the service. Worst service I've had so far in London while dining out. The manager was just plain ignorant. He got our order wrong, brought meals at different times and didnt once even smile at us, let alone ask how the meal was. It was like he just wanted us out of there. There seems to be an abundance of Italian restaurants nearby and I'll definitely not be back to this one.
Our table at Osteria Basilico was squeezed in right by the door, with two of the chairs on the door mat. We were surrounded by other people turning up, waiting it in the entrance for their tables. If we had had a drink it would have been better, but no-one came over to say hello, or apologise. After 20 minutes my girlfriend complained but after taking our drinks order, we still had to prompt them to bring the wine.
There was no apology for having a crap table with a draft, surrounded by loads of people waiting. Instead they blamed it on the other inconsiderate earlier sitting guests who had not left on time. By 10 o'clock it was better, but the service was either rude, arrogant or vacant. When we eventually got the bill came I somehow still managed to get stung by the Tip Twice scam. Osteria Basilico has truly terrible service and a money grabbing attitude. The only good thing was the food, but I still left with a very bad taste in my mouth.
Osteria Basilico is one of the worst restaurants I have been to. The manager, waiters and whom ever else we came across were rude, stressed, totally unhelpful and very unwelcoming. The atmosphere was awful, smoky, loud and cramped.
The food at Osteria Basilico was average but it would not have mattered if it were the best in the world as the staff and their arrogant ways just made the evening a dreadful experience!
Totally agree - Osteria Basilico is one of the best Italians in London and I lived in Rome for 15 years. Definitely try Osteria Basilico!
Osteria Basilico is my favourite Italian restaurant in the whole of London - and London's a big place.I love the pasta - it always tastes so fresh and the waiters are just dreamy. Obviously now I've told everyone about Osteria Basilico I won't be able to get a table. Damn.
