The ViewLondon Review

Patara is one branch of a small international chain of good quality restaurants, with a lack of dress code and friendly staff that would make anyone feel welcome.

The Venue
Patara is a medium sized restaurant on Maddox Street, just off Regent Street. The restaurant in itself is quite surprising, with a pleasant mix of oriental tradition, and modern chic. The soft lighting and lack of noise from service makes you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Central London. The seating area is deceptively small when you walk in and the tables are a little small, so you may not have enough room for everything on your table, and private conversations are nigh on impossible. However, there is, by comparison, almost vast spaces in the downstairs area.

The Atmosphere
The clientele here are quite varied, but tends towards the more affluent due to the food prices. The staff in Patara are very good with a thorough knowledge of the menu, and their service is generally efficient.

The Drink
There are the usual beer, wine and spirits available, but for those who like cocktails, they are made completely fresh and you will find them to be of an excellent quality, with options such as the Lychee Collins proving to be a top choice. The wine list is concise, but caters to most palettes.

The Food
The food is the real forte of Patara. Where Thai food can sometimes be over-poweringly hot, the menu here combines refreshing and succulent starters with aromatic, well presented main courses. The quality of ingredients used is not masked by flavours being too strong, and the meat used in the dishes is tender and flavoursome. Whilst the portions appear small, if you combine the main course with rice, it becomes surprisingly filling. You may find there is no need to even look at the fairly restrictive dessert menu.

The Last Word
The central location of the restaurant, pleasant atmosphere and good service, combined with the excellent quality of the food, makes for an enjoyable evening out eating. The price may deter some people, but you do pay for the quality.
