The name of Penge may not fill you with excitement at the thought of it, but the area is truly up and coming, or indeed since the arrival of the farmers market in June 2009, up and come. Set up through the inspiration of the Blue Belle Cafe on Maple Road, the market is the only place in the vicinity where shoppers can get hold of fresh local fruit and vegetables.
Set just off the High Street, the Penge Farmers Market is crammed with locals on its Saturday visits, and is seen by many as the highlight of the community's week. An area renowned for its historical buildings and for its huge number of pubs per square foot, Penge is a smaller, village style location which did in fact used to be a part of Kent. Bringing a fresh perspective to idea of shopping locally, the farmers market is just a taste of the vibrancy which has filled the area following its regeneration.
