The attitude of service in this restaurant is best summarised in the owner's reply to Anonymous (see above - a different Anonymous) "you did get away with just paying £7.90 for a good starter and a whole Seabass and still complaining about it on this website!!" where he pretends to apologise for his own mistake but actually has a go at the customer.

I went to Pierre Victoire for dinner with a friend last week. We were given the menu and then forgotten about. Because we were so tired we didn't want to leave and look for another place so we tried to get the attention of waitstaff to get our orders. Twenty minutes later we succeeded.

It is a cramped place with poor acoustics, it got so noisy that we had to shout to hear each other as if we were in a bar. Our questions about the fish were greeted by a shrugging "I don't know and I don't care" attitude (obviously not in those words) so with fear of losing the waiter again we gave up ordered the duck and the chicken. Half an hour later my chicken arrived, and my friend had to wait for her duck for another 20 minutes. The chicken was undercooked and the vegetables next to it had alread gone cold when they arrived.

Overall we spent a good 2 hours mostly starving and waiting, all the while not being able to have a proper conversation. When it came to pay the bill, the waiter obviously thought that it was more important to clear up the 2 tables that had just left before bringing us our bill.

Don't go to this restaurant unless one or more of these apply:
1) You have the patience of Solomon/nerves of steel.
2) You are at least partially deaf.
3) You hate the person who is your guest and want to make them suffer.
Seriously, there are much nicer places in Soho to part with your hard-earned cash and most of them involve service with a smile.

I have previously rated this restaurant highly until last night (Sat 23 Oct, after 8.00pm) when my partner and I went there hoping to have dessert and coffee as we had already eaten somewhere else. We were seated, then when we asked to change for the dessert menus instead the waiter had to go and ask the manager if it was ok, he came back and told us that it was'nt ok. So we just got up and left. We couldn't just have dessert/coffee or dessert wine? Why not? Probably because the manager was on a power trip and too greedy! Shame, we will never go back!

My husband and I bumped into this restaurant in our last visit to London and we were so pleased with the fantastic French cuisine, with the friendly staff and the bistro’s atmosphere that we returned on the following day. It was a pity that we had to go back home in two days but we will return there, for sure. It’s great value for two-course lunch that costs less than £8, 00.

I really like this place. I called on a Wednesday 8pm-ish to book for a party of 8 on a Thursday 7:30pm and could not believe it when they said it was possible. Not only that but our table was right at the front by the open windows, perfect given it was a pretty balmy night. I guess it was just luck, other times (maybe 4-5 times over the last 2 years) I've been right at the back, and it's definitely a squash, but it's a great atmosphere wherever you are. I saw some tables downstairs with noone there. I don't imagine they give you those without asking first, but they look pretty dismal so make sure you're upstairs.
I was impressed that the food is good despite the low prices. They squeeze in so many people that's probably how they can keep them down. Pretty much our whole table ordered steak of some sort, because it's not often in London you get good steak at good prices like you do here. Fromm what I can remember I've had duck there before, potato gratin, asparagus, the scallop starter, and sampled all the desserts, and can vouch for all those at least.
And the pianist was awesome, and played everything my mum requested. I've been there another night maybe 18 months ago and the pianist stayed right till the end (we were one of the last 2 tables), and played all our requests (including some pretty dodgy nostalgia pieces like Rick Astley and Kylie and Jason) and neither he nor the staff seemed to mind us singing along. We did give him a good tip to thank him.
Anyway, you should definitely bear this place in mind for a cheap and cheerful night out. Hard to find better for the price in Soho.

I can't say a bad thing about this place, it is one of the best restaurants I've been to, especially considering the prices here aren't bad at all!
I've been about 4 times for dinner with my girlfriend (well ex-girlfriend now, boohoo) and it's been amazingly busy every time, I've never booked in advance (cause I always loose their card) so did expect to wait a while but the staff have always been straight with the waiting time, and unlike some places each time the staff actually did seem to care about us waiting. Food was amazing, last time I had a steak and it is as though they actually read my mind on how the perfect meal should be cooked!
If your downstairs where it's slightly quieter it can be quite romantic, with the candle in the wine bottle, the well presented and polite staff and the general decor of the place, it's basically a brilliant date location.
Not gonna lie, probably wouldn't go there with just the fellas, but as a date location or a mixed group place it is brilliant.

Further to my previous review - dinner on Saturday was outstanding!

We arrived 15 minutes early and offered a choice of seats but for the prime upstairs seating we opted to return at the time of our booking.

We went for a quick drink across the road and were seated immediately on our return. It took us AGES to decide what to have as the menu all sounds delicious and is so reasonable.

I opted for the lamb spring roll and my boyfriend had the scallops. Apparentely they were the best scallops he's ever had! Then onto the main.

We both had 'Steak & Frites", his with beurre maitre d' and mine with peppercorn and blue cheese sauce. The steak was superb. We both asked for medium and they were cooked perfectly.

They were melt-in-you-mouth tender - literally two chews and it was gone! I can't remember the last time I had a steak that good! Plus the sauce was amazing - if you could bottle it I'd buy shares!

Frites were fine - my boyfriend wasn't overly enthused by them but I thought they were OK. The potato dauphinoise were perfect.

Only downside of the meal was that I ordered the house white which was horrible, but that's my fault. Ordered a nice middle priced bottle of red after that and it was lovely.

This meal really was delicious and amazing value - the steak was £13.90!

All in all our meal and wine came to £84 with service. You would pay double that at other nearby brasseries and bistros and the food isn't half as good.

On one final note, the service was fantastic from start to finish. The manager/owner bent over backwards to ensure every diner was happy.

The waiter and waitress who served us were both very good, and actually smiled which is a rarity in London.

Both service and food was quick and right first time. One grumble - there was no piano player which was a shame!

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A lit

I went to Pierre Victoire for lunch a few months ago with three girlfriends and it was fantastic.

It is a favourite of one of the girls and she insisted we try it - and I delighted we did! I cannot think of anywhere else in London where you can get food this good for the set menu price of around £7. Outstanding value.

I had the tomato and goats cheese soup to start which was so good I still think about it now!

I had an omelette for main which was pretty uninspiring but I blame myself for ordering wrong - after such delicious starters an omelette just wasn't going to cut it!

We arrived quite early and the manager/owner/waiter was still hand writing out the day's menu which instantly suggested the food is fresh, in season and carefully considered.

How many restaurants would bother to do that every day? Since that lovely lunch I have been waiting for an opportunity to try this place for dinner one night so will be doing just that this Saturday as a birthday treat for my boyfriend.

After some deliberation I have chosen Pierre Victoire over The French House and Cafe Boheme - watch this space!

the atmosphere is brilliant, the wine lists are great, the staff are delightful, and best of all it's very very reasonably priced.
