This new tapas bar and restaurant comes from the same team as the highly acclaimed Brighton restaurant Pinxto People.

The Venue
Based on the periphery of the City, near popular Old Street and trendy Hoxton, Pinchito Tapas is set amongst many cool and hip bars in the surrounding area. The Spanish influence is reflected in the design by the owners who have used their own favourite Barcelonian hangouts as inspiration. The look is modern and funky with a twist of urban industrial.

There are concrete blasted brick walls coupled with some unusual wall art and uber-trendy low lighting. The seating layout is both at a counter set around the open kitchen with a handful of tables at the side. Towards the back there’s a little alcove where you will see an extraordinary use of some tall barrels where drinkers gather round to soak up the atmosphere.

The Atmosphere
The majority of the clientele are young, trendy Hoxton folk and couples who are looking for a little nibble. Once you’re inside you’ll be enveloped in the very buzzy environment.

The Food
Pinchito Tapas serves up a selection of approximately 30 tapas dishes, but unfortunately the choices on offer leave something to be desired. The usual suspects are all present and accounted for, including a chunky portion of fresh Spanish tortilla topped with a dollop of aioli, an average tomato and goats cheese salad and a vegetable salad including marinated aubergines, courgettes and peppers. Other dishes include patatas bravas, smoked sheep’s milk cheese, Iberico ham and chorizo sausages in cider.

There’s a significant lack of meat dishes, one of the few choices being a greasy, gristly garlic chicken, so if you’re a big meat fan you’re probably better off sticking with drinks.

The Drink
The drinks menu far outweighs the tapas selection, which is a pity if you’re come for a meal. Some highlights from the extensive menu include six varieties of Scotch whisky, seven tequilas featuring a Guervo tradicional and 12 choices of vodka. Try the Smirnoff Black for a real kick. The list carries on with over half a dozen rums and cocktails. The pink sangria, a melange of lychee, strawberries and elderflower with rose wine and gin, is strongly recommended.

The Last Word
Although Pinchito Tapas is a fairly decent place to go for a drink and a nibble, it would do better by adding the fine dining restaurant which has been such a big hit in their sibling outlet.
