On the day of the Royal Wedding my 3 daughters and I had a late lunch in Ping Pong. We went in with our tiaras and Union Jacks and ordered the banquet as it was a special day. The manager took a photo of us and offered us each a free champagne cocktail which arrived in a tall glass with a pale pink glow and a small dried rose in each glass. The cocktail was delicious and a generous size considering it was free. We went on to buy several more! The service was excellent and the meal superb. It worked out at about £37/head, not cheap but with champagne, numerous dishes and the classic flowering tea it contributed to a great day where the atmosphere in London was very jubilant. God Bless Kate and Wills and I would certainly return to Ping Pong on a future trip to London.
Very expensive Dim Sum!!
Highlights: The fried, griddled and baked dim sum dishes are amazing, as are the rice and meat clay pots, signature dishes and accompanying dips/sauces.. the best I have ever tasted! The drinks, although lots of variety and very nice, are also expensive.
Lowlights: The soups and the steamed dim sum are a BIG no-no. For these dishes you are better off going round the corner to China Town in Leicester square.
For 2 people the bill came to £50. (We did order slightly more than needed) Most of the dishes were very nice but not somewhere to go if you are on a budget, and not if you want to try the full range of Dim Sum. Worth going to try it out and the location and building are stunning.
We just stumbled across Ping Pong the other evening, knew nothing about it but liked the look of it from the outside so decided to give it a try and were really glad we did. The food was fantastic! It tasted freshly cooked, unlike many similar restaurants where the food is obviously reheated, and everything we had was exceptional. The variation on the menu was great and I would especially recommend their sticky rice and chicken & coconut rice bowl, not to mention the weird and wonderful teas and cocktails - very unique! Fab interior in a great location too. Definitely worth looking up if you're out and about in the area.
Don't leave your belongings at Ping Pong.
Following a decent Christmas meal out with work at Ping Pong, where the service was friendly and the food reasonably good, I left a hat under the seat. After ringing up to confirm it was still there they assured they would keep hold of it until the New Year.
Well bah humbug....did they? No, after a long walk up to the Southbank I was informed they had unceremoniously dumped it. Despite a note being left with it.
My review - ok price, fairly reasobaly priced but don't trust them to hold onto anything for you!
I have been here several times, and always regard it as a safe bet in an area where 'nice chain restaurants' can become stretched to the limit during the tourist season.
Although you can't book there is a bar where you can wait and have cocktails or tea (which is a whole flower and slowly unfurls in the hot water).
I go in the day and have their set lunch menu. Even though it is a set menu, there is a good variety and the portions are ample. This is a really good place to take a veggie because of the variety of the menu.
The staff are very polite and helpful, even when it's busy. It is a great pre-theatre or post-tate modern place, ideal for a daytime date or a lunch with the girls, or even a family.
Ping Pong is stupendous! Seriously good food and our waitress was just so sweet and helpful - she ensured Ping Pong gets a 5 star review from us. I wish more waiting staff were as good as her.
