The ViewLondon Review
Pizza On The Wood is a delightful slice of Italy in Willesden Green and the cosy restaurant more than makes up for its size with its menu.
The Venue
Set a short distance from Willesden Green tube station, Pizza On The Wood is handily located for those seeking sustenance at the end of a long day. Smartly decorated, the restaurant is designed so that you can see the chef at work from the majority of the tables.
The Atmosphere
For those who are after an intimate dinner, this restaurant is perfect for indulging in good conversation over some delicious food. The staff are very welcoming and provide excellent service with a smile. When it is quiet there is little more you could ask for, although when numbers pick up it does test the staff’s efficiency.
The Food
First and foremost the pizza list is impressive and has a veritable A-Z of toppings. Handmade whilst you wait, the bases are thin although not crispy, large and covered in fresh ingredients. As for size, pizzas range from the 12 inch to half a metre for the more ambitious. With fried pizza and calzone also available, even the hungriest diner is unlikely to leave unfulfilled.
There is also a grilled selection of mostly beef-based dishes which are served with delicious homemade chips. If you make it to dessert there is a choice of three. Expect dishes such as tiramisu, panna cotta and caprese – recipes straight from Italy just like the rest of the menu.
The Drink
A selection of ten specially imported Italian wines – half red, half white – covers the basics and although not expansive, should keep most diners happy. For those after a beer with their pizza there is a choice of three, again Italian, beers.
The Last Word
Cosy, affordable with a veritable treasure trove of pizzas, Pizza On The Wood is a local Italian that delivers.
