We came here for my sister's birthday last Saturday. The food was tasteless I had the calzone and ended up spooning the inside out and just eating the pizza base. Only the birthday girl enjoyed her food - lobster - the rest of us ate only because we were hungry. We had all chosen different options from the menu as well so couldn't be because we all had similar food. Our main waiter was incredibly rude I think he was the manager or owner of the store, quite a round guy with a massive chip on his shoulder. He kept huffing and looking exasperated throughout our whole meal. Definitely didn't deserve the tip we left! On a brighter note, the rest of the staff were very friendly and my dad enjoyed the wine!
Please notice that this place is called Ristorante Castello Pizzeria and is not THE Pizzeria Castello that was at the Elephant and Castle.
I have been here twice and both times the food was excellent. The minestrone is home made and delicious and comes in a very decent sized bowl. I have had both pasta and meat dishes and both were properly cooked - neither under nor overdone and with good flavour. The service is nice and friendly and the owner recognised me the second time. Good value for a nice evening. Great.
we have eaten here several times and i can honestly say, without reservation, that the staff and owner have always been most helpful. i am sure that like any other venue, if you take the time to get to know the staff they will treat youlike family. we have been for their set christmas menu, weekdays and weekends. if you want value for money, then this is the place to be. food exceptional, staff hard working and attentive. excellent.
It should be said the food with the exception of the Duck Penne was excellent, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the service. Our waiter had forgotten his Italian training and was bordering on rude, slamming down plates, snatching menus and hurrying us through our meal, hopefully he was just having a bad day but it spoilt what could have been a very nice evening for our large party celebrating my sister's birthday.
I loved the original Castello's when it was at the Elephant & Castle but this was an entirely different experience, it's a shame they have messed with a winning formula.
Read all the reviews and they seemed so positive that we thought we'd give it a try last evening.
My starter was bruschetta which was a warm piece of toast with very cold (too cold) chopped tomatoes on top. Placing very cold tomatoes (obviously straight out of the fridge) on top was a mistake and meant that the tomatoes had very little flavour.
We had a vegetarian pizza and a fiorentina pizza, both of which were very thick-crusted and dry. The toppings were not at all moist, and the cheese had gone hard and rubbery through over cooking. Not an onion in sight.
I believe that any shop-bought pizza would have been thinner and tastier (nd cheaper!).
Stay home and get a supermarket pizza!
