The ViewLondon Review
You’ll do well to notice this restaurant on one of the busiest roads in Richmond, but once you do, you’ll never be able to walk past again without getting the urge to step inside for a bite to eat, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The Venue
Pizzeria Rustica is a minute walk away from Richmond station. It’s situated on the main road, making it a perfect place to stop by for a chilled our meal after a day of shopping. The restaurant looks deceptively small but the first floor has ample space and there is also an upper level. You can have the choice of sitting in one of the intimate spaces where you can enjoy a dinner tete-a-tete or choose a window seat to watch the world go by. The low lighting gives the place a relaxing ambience and the warm yellow painted walls and wooden tables give this venue a truly rustic Mediterranean feel.
The Atmosphere
Couples and small groups of friends are the clientele here, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. The waiters are welcoming and service is attentive, but not overly so, Some of the tables are placed slightly too close to each other so when the restaurant fills up it can feel a little too cramped.
The Food
The menu is simple, concise and well thought out. Prices are reasonable considering the area with main courses ranging from £9 - £15. Most of the standard starters are offered here, including breads, olives cheese and freshly made salads. The Spaghetti Marinara is a must if you love seafood; king prawns, mussels, and cuttlefish are all cooked in a white wine, garlic, chilli and tomato sauce making for a succulent, perfectly seasoned dish. The pasta is cooked al dente and there is no need to search your plate for prawns; the servings are satisfyingly generous. If you’re more of a meat fan, go for the Orecciete Salssicca, spicy Italian sausage and sun blushed tomatoes cooked in a tomato sauce.
There are various main meals to choose from but if this a one off visit to Pizzeria Rustica you absolutely have to try the award winning pizzas. There is something for every taste and all the pizzas are thin crusted with generous amounts of fresh toppings. Although they’re the perfect size – large – you’re not likely to want to share; the Pizza Rustica pizzas are very special.
The Drink
There is a concise wine list available, all being authentic Italian wines. Try the Cabernet Sauvignon; the hint of cherry and blackcurrant flavours give it a wonderful sweetness, making it a great wine to go with your meal or to drink by itself.
The Last Word
Pizzeria Rustica is a popular place to eat, the atmosphere is relaxing and the service is friendly and welcoming. With the food being fresh and always delicious, it’s a great restaurant to visit if you want to impress, just book before you go so as not to be disappointed.
