Want to experience real East London vibes? Rock up to Pub on the Park in London Fields.

The Venue
Modern Hackney is an interesting place – you’ve got old Eastenders, families who were once part of the original Shoreditch scene, young professionals and a great West Indian influence.

And nothing sums this borough up better than London Fields in the summer. Overlooking the main London Fields area, Pub on the Park is a large refurbished Victorian pub. Step inside and you’ll see it’s full of an assortment of old wooden furniture and ample seating. Slither past this to the back and there’s a large outdoor decking area, too – perfect for people watching and catching the rays on a warm summer’s day. People spotting aside, this is a great venue to watch the football and the pub has a couple of screens.

The Atmosphere
The great thing about Pub on the Park is that it appeals to almost everyone in the immediate vicinity. You’ve got trendy art students in skinny jeans and oversized sunglasses sitting on tables next to old folk who’ve lived in the nearest council estate for the whole of their lives.

Staff add to this eclectic happy vibe by being particularly cheery – if there’s no seating outside and it’s warm, they’ll be happy to carry out a table or chair from the inside onto the decking for you. Or, as many people request during the summer, they’ll put your drink into a plastic cup so you can take it out to the park. Who you are matters very little in this pub; everyone is just happy going about his or her own business.

The Food
Although not amazingly advertised, Pub on the Park serves reasonably priced traditional pub brunch, lunch and dinner. Expect fish and chips, pies, burgers and a full English for between £5 and £10. If it’s a warm summer’s day and you want food, you’re going to have to be patient. This place can get ridiculously packed.

The Drink
Pub on the Park is particularly well known for its selection of bottled and draught beers, especially Belgium. It also serves a great selection of ales. It’s not especially cheap, but in comparison to how some of the pubs in the area have been hitching up their prices as they’ve become more trendy, it’s not that bad.

The Last Word
Busy, friendly and without doubt a great pub to chill out in on a warm summer's day - Pub on the Park is a reliably decent choice.
