The ViewLondon Review
Situated moments away from Tulse Hill station, The Railway Kitchen and Bar is a local hidden gem in South East London.
The Venue
Combining a healthy dose of classic and contemporary decor with dark red and grey accents and the walls are adorned with stylish art which is changed on a monthly basis.
It is all too easy to while away a few hours here sitting on the comfy leather sofas, just gently taking in the chilled out atmosphere.
The Atmosphere
The clientele at The Railway Kitchen and Bar are a mixed bunch as the pub is located next to the train station and draws a steady crowd of commuters as well as locals into its laid back lair. At the weekend the pub is transformed into a lively venue with regular DJs playing an eclectic mixture of tunes. Monthly poetry evenings and occasional comedy gigs are held in the function room upstairs.
With its relaxed bar staff and chilled out beats playing throughout the week it is easy to forget that you’re located next to the train station.
The Food
Forget about the usual pub fodder, the food here is colourful, fresh and delicious, think grilled goats cheese salad and roasted butternut squash and ricotta cheese lasagne served with a fresh, crisp salad.
With a two course meal costing around £7 there's plenty of change to sample one of the many continental beers that they have on offer.
The Drink
There are a wide variety of beers to choose from depending on your taste and budget. Hoegaarden is served on tap alongside the usual choices such as Stella and Fosters and the bottled beers have been imported from around the world - Tiger, Corona and Strawberry Fruli are just some of the choices.
The Last Word
The Railway Kitchen and Bar is a contemporary and comfortable gastro pub, ideal for enjoying a drink and delicious food in a relaxed and friendly environment.
