General Price Guide: Moderate.

Location and Punters:
The inviting riverside location in Battersea is but one of the many features that brings punters back time and time again to Ransome’s Dock. Its popularity as a top class, neighbourhood restaurant makes booking well ahead, essential. The nearest tube station is Sloane Square.

Atmosphere and Décor:
Ransome’s Dock is a relaxed and pleasant eaterie where the waterside setting enhances its laid back atmosphere.

Housed in a converted warehouse, the periwinkle blue paintwork adds a nice touch. The restaurant can seat up to 60 people indoors, with an additional 20 outdoors when the weather is fine. Service is friendly and efficient.

Nosh and Drinks:
The food is mainly modern European with a strong emphasis on seasonal British dishes. The menu changes monthly and the food is consistently prepared to very high standards - head Chef, Martin Lamb, prides himself on sourcing the finest, fresh ingredients and ensuring that their flavours are not lost in the cooking. This objective he certainly achieves with aplomb.

Starters might include first rate Homemade Soups, Seared Scallops or Morcombe Bay Potted Shrimps (diver caught for freshness!). Main dishes are also produced to enhance their natural, fresh ingredients. Try the Roast Rack of Highland Lamb with Potato and Aubergine Timbale and a Pimento Sauce, Spinach and Ricotta Gnochi, or the Guernsey Veal with Girolles, Leeks and Roast Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

Mrs Lamb is in charge of the desserts and constantly comes up with fresh ideas such as Caramelised Rice Pudding with Poached Quinces (when the latter are in season), Almond Cake with Poached Figs or the pièce de resistance, the Armagnac Soufflé.

Sunday Brunch including Kippers, Homemade Beefburgers etc is always popular. An average set lunch starts at around £13. A typical 2-course à-la-carte meal costs around £28.

The drinks list is well thought out and offers a good selection of quality international wines. The Experience:
The delightful setting and the inventive modern cuisine make Ransome’s Dock the sort of place were you will want to pause and linger over your meal.
