HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! For a 25 pound buffet I expected a lot more. I went here with my friends for dinner last night and it was horrible! The waitresses don't even try to look like they give a crap about you. They pour your drinks like they're pouring drinks to a cow, they throw your food on your platter as if it was garbage. The food was OK-- but definitely not worth 25 pounds. They charge you 10% for the most crappiest service ever. Generally, Chinese restaurants do give you bad service, but this was utterly unacceptable.
It was the worst experience ever! Me and my boyfriend went to the restaurant one of Sunday only 3 tables of customer in the restaurant. Total bill: 53 poundwe ordered 3 main dishes (spicy crabs/beef tripe / Sichuan style chicken)1: service:no one greet us and sit us, I been waiting for 20 minute to order my drink ,when I ready to order called one of waiter he just walked away and send other waitress after 5 minutes. During the food I request some napkins I been waiting for 10 minutes as well.2: foodspicy crab it wasn’t whole crab , in the dish you even can’t find the craw and the crab not fresh at all. Chicken it was way too salty and inside is red. Beef tripe was too salty as well (i even ordered extra drink because of that)fried rice and noodles just average.3: atmosphere Unpleasant smell Also the table next to us the customer are really loud because most of them get drunk that’s why the keep shout and swear. (none of the member of staff say anything about it )over all I won’t go back to Red N Hot ever again. Really disappointed not recommend at all.
I had a good experience at this restaurant and have to say that for the authenticity of the menu on offer here, I would tolerate any kind of service. You simply can't find this kind of food easily in the UK.
The portion I had was absolutely enormous. The way they used layer upon layer of chilli peppers was out of this world. You will not find a spicier restaurant in London and I have eaten a lot of Korean food!
There were plenty of exotic cuts of meat on offer from frog's legs to pig's hooves. Why on earth you would ask for 'Lemon Chicken', in a place as interesting as this is beyond me!
The service, while there was a bit of a language barrier, was courteous and seemed friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend Red'n'Hot for those who want something different and spicy as hell!
I read the first of these three reviews and considered not going to this restaurant. I would have made a grave mistake.
The food is excellent, as long as you like chilli of course, but nobody would go to a Sichuan restaurant and try to order lemon chicken, would they?
I mean, would they...? The beef tripe in chilli sauce I had to start was fabulous, and the portion I had was enough to feed three.
I also ordered king prawns with peanuts and spinach with garlic, and ended up finishing neither because I didn't have room after finishing the tripe.
The menu is extensive and genuinely Sichuan (does anybody remember the Dragon Gate that used to be on the north side of Gerrard Street about 25-30 years ago?) and I'll be back plenty more times to try the rest.
Service is friendly, if relaxed (meaning don't try and fit a meal into 20 minutes - leave at least an hour) and it's a touch on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. I recommend it.
I will start by saying I have never written a review about a restaurant before, but my experience at this restaurant left me feeling compelled to do so.
Personally, I love Chinese food, and having gone to the Red n Hot Chinese Restaurant in Birmingham on many occasions where I was met with friendly waiters, lovely food and excellent service, I arrived at the London, Charing Cross Road branch expecting the same. WHAT A JOKE! Never again! STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!
The service was terrible, the manager who was acting as a waiter was extremely rude to us. We ordered similar food to what we had ordered in the Birmingham branch and were surprised at how STINGY the PORTIONS were. He literally sprawlled the chopsticks across the table like he could not be bothered to deal with us!!
The soup was far too watery, the manager could not have had a worse concept of customer service telling us that LEMON CHICKEN was not on the menu and they could not be bothered to at least try to cook it (despite it being on the menu in Brum), that the tea was not free (despite it being free in Brum). The manager wanted us to tell him our order in the numbers on the menu rather than the actual food we were ordering.
Every plate/saucer we had was chipped and 20 mins after ordering, the manager came up to us and told us that they had run out of seaweed. He could have at least told us when we were ordering!
Our concerns about the food hygeine were further heightened when a customer literally stuck his hand in the buffet to consume more food after paying and on his way out.
