Went there on a Tuesday night at 9pm for dinner. Had to wait almost an hour for starters and over 45minutes for mains. The restaurant was not even busy! The starters were ok but at this point we were starving. The mains arrived and I ordered my steak medium and my partner ordered his medium well. When they arrived the chef had clearly messed up our orders as my fillet steak was dry, bland and overcooked and my partner was rare and juicy. I tried to explain this to the waitress who treated me like an idiot and insisted the were both medium! Any one could see the difference in colour and texture. Mine was burnt on top and brown in the middle and his was wonderfully pink and juicy! Considered ordering and paying for another steak but didn't want to sit and wait for a further half hour for food so I filled myself up on bread. I left feeling hungry and annoyed at the service we received. Would no go back, would not recommend!
My wife and I visited Redhook on Friday to celebrate our wedding anniversary and what an enjoyable experience this was. I requested a quiet corner and we were put in the perfect location. During the evening we were served by several members of staff and every one we spoke to was friendly and efficient. The standard of service exceed that of some Michelin Star restaurants that we have visited.
The food was also exceptional especially the tempura shrimp and the cocktails were delightful.
I will be recommending your restaurant to all my friends and clients.
Well done Redhook!!
Finally, a bar that puts Farringdon firmly on the cool map. Great cocktails (best in EC1 in my opinion), warm vibrant atmosphere, oh and great staff with big smiles!
I went here on Wednesday. But I'm not sure if I went to the same place as the reviews below! It was excellent. The waiter was fantastic and well informed, the host was lovely, the scallops and chorizo were brilliant, the drinks were good and the service was quick. My only complaint would be the wine list - there weren't enough whites.
Gets a star for decor but everything else fell short. Where do I start:
- was told by guy behind the bar that he would bring a bottle of wine over to our seat (he offered )- which turns out wasn't his job as he splits the oysters...so he just didn't do it and didn't tell anyone else to. Matradee said he wasn't bar staff...well I'm not physic.
- we booked for 9pm and were told to sit by the door (worst seat in the house) and nothing else was available. When something came up it took 10mins for them to realise this and seat us.
- When we asked for bread (that everyone else got) they had run out. (9.20pm) The waiter said he would get an alternative that never came
- the waiter didn't know the contents of the starters - tho the menu was very short
- wrong dish was served as a main course
- Our waiter asked for our desert choices, we said we needed a minute, then the matradee asked the same question 1 second later. By this time I was ready to deck someone.
Only go if you have really low expectations of service. You cant have under-grads running a bar and restaurant that size. They mean well but it's like having children serving up the Sunday roast. And the food...okish.
The reasons I did not like Redhook:1. Service was a bit slow. We had to ask for our drink when they did not turn up.2. My starter was over cooked. I had scallops and cant help but think they had been frozen. This was not very nice at all.3. My main was undercooked. I ordered medium rare steak and it arrived rare. I asked for it to be put back on the grill for a few more minute. The waiter told me the chef cooked it the french medium rare. How am I meant to know that especially in an American restaurant. Perhaps this excuse could be used in a french restaurant.4. Overpriced for what you get.5. The restaurant was fairly empty yet we were placed in a booth barely 5 feet from the bar. Drinkers at the bar were practically on our table and it was not a relaxing meal in the slightest. The booths by the bar should really be for drinkers.6. One of our sides was very over seasoned. The one star that I do give it is for the staff that were generally polite. And once the steak was cooked as ordered tasted not too bad. The only reason we went to Redhook was because we had a voucher for £50 pounds. The bill in the end was £70 and I have to say if we had to pay the full amount without a voucher I would have been extremely annoyed.
Went to Redhook on Thursday night. The food was brilliant, and the rockafeller oysters were amazing. It was absolutely packed, and the service was great. It's becoming quite rare to have efficient and friendly service in a London restaurant. So Redhook, I doff my cap, and wonder how they've got it so right in their first month when most others never get there.
