Myself and my partner were given a voucher for Sunday lunch at the Regatta. Thank god we did not pay. On entering the restaurant all people with the same voucher were put on one side of the restaurant. The food was ok and there were 4 choices per course, the only problem being that portions were small. With the main course my partner asked the waiter for some rice, to be told that an Italian restaurant does not serve rice on a Sunday. I then asked for another portion of potatoes which we would pay for separately. After 5 minutes an agitated waiter returned claiming there were no potatoes left!!!! and it was not his fault, to speak to the chef if we had a problem. We did not bother. On leaving the restaurant the chef/proprietor was in the restaurant. My partner asked him why he had not done more prep work and really couldn't see how there was no rice or potatoes when there were other diners in the place. He told the chef/proprietor that he is an ex chef and know how it works in a kitchen. The chef/proprietor told him he had a lot to learn and when my partner once again politely informed he was more than qualified was told to F*** off by the chef/proprietor.Stunned does not describe it. I could not believe how rude and abusive this man had been just because he was having a bad day. Great way to keep your customers coming back, not that I would recommend this very mediocre place anyway. Most definitely the worse establishment I have ever had the misfortune to eat in.

This is the best good food restuarant I have eaten in for years, it ticks all the boxes for me and my friends.
The best sea food in town I can only recommend this 100% the problem is you cannot get a table on Saturday they are always fully booked out and weekdays are no good for me, I now book weeks ahead to make sure of enjoying one of the really great experiences in London.
Can't wait until my next meal, if you like the best, try and get a table.

Over priced. Over charged! (Didn't realise until we got home) Over rated. Food average. Decor dull. Staff not exactly welcoming.

On a Saturday night we went for the set menu and the starters - scallops and calamari, were good

The problems we had were

1. Music - it was a cheap keyboard and sounded like lift music, there have been other comments about this, please lose the keyboard player it's terrible and ruins an otherwise fantastic ambience in a well decorated restaurant

2. My wife ordered minute steak which was cheap casserole steak and my Fritto misto Regatta" A traditional Venetian dish of wonderful crisp fried seasonal little fishes and shellfish" was the same as my starter - deep fried calamari with some deep fried cod

In good news the staff were very polite , unlike other reviews stated, but this food was not worth the £50 (not including the wine) we paid for it. This restaurant needs to improve the quality of its food before charging the prices it does.

I was lucky enough to pick this restaurant to dine this Saturday evening, it was very busy, but I could not have had a warmer welcome and the meal was superb.
The head chef took time out to explain with some enthusiasm the fresh fish dishes displayed on the blackboard and we took his advice and both had a whole roast turbot, sublime !!
The cost of this whole fish would have been at least thirty pounds anywhere else assuming it would have been on offer, I have never seen a whole turbot on offer, but here there was a market price cost price charge of seven pounds added to the set price of any two courses for 19.95 making an outstanding dinner and a great price. Our starters were fresh crab and some clams with fresh spaghetti and we finished with the artisan cheese board of lovely conditioned Gorgonzola with some interesting Sardinia cheeses, so refreshing and no cheddar to be seen.
The owners really care about this restaurant and I challenge anyone to find a better night out if you enjoy great food and service.
This is old fashioned hospitality, try it you wont be disappointed !!

First time in my life I’ve felt the need to warn others of a completely disgusting, over priced, disaster of a dinner from start to finish at this restaurant. Our family only get together from around the globe once in 10 years so you can imagine how much we were all looking forward to it.

We rang the restaurant twice to make sure of the arrangements and informed them twice that we would be slightly late as two of our family were delayed flying in from America. Imagine the shock at being greeted by the most rude, ignorant, arrogant waiter screeching and shouting angrily at the top of his voice, in my daughter’s faces, that he was just going to give our table away as we were 15 minutes late! The poor young waitress behind him was mortified with embarrassment.

We were seating in a dimly lit side section and ignored as much as possible for the whole meal by the staff. We had to ask for menus and then they reluctantly found 3 between 6 of us.

Every fish dish we ordered was finished (at 8pm on a Saturday night?) and as the lady taking the orders was unable to hear us, and appeared very irritable, we had to make do with hastily chosen replacements.

The food finally arrived in stages, all with the waiter’s thumb stuck in the dishes. The veal was burnt black underneath (what sort of a chef would have allowed it out of their kitchen?), the steaks cold, no garnish, no vegetables even though the menu said they were included, no offer of bread rolls, we were all so embarrassed and subdued we ate in silence except for twice having to ask for vegetables as though we were in a macabre production of Oliver. A bowl of cold broccoli was eventually brought, followed 10 minutes later, after another request, by a decent bowl of new potatoes, shame as we had all finished our food and they were clearing the table. Can’t comment on the deserts or coffee as we couldn’t wait to get out as quickly as possible. The only entertainment was watching diners at other tables complain!

Overpriced, overcooked, overratted food. Dull and boring decor. We saw one table send food back and then argue about being overcharged. We wish we had the nerve to have sent ours back. We cannot believe that people write good reviews about this place unless of course they are family. We will not return.

Mick's review is very interesting to read. It must be noted that the review (and response) I posted below here was not "made up". The proprietors should note - properly - that in fact "staff" were absolutely fine, as was said explicitly in my review. Staff were never the problem. People should know that, in fact, on our way out of our dismal experience - having indeed declined the huge 12.5% "service" charge - we decided to tip personally in cash the two female waitresses: because they actually performed excellently and politely. I did not "make up" my response: the problem that caused this response was the owners. Two surly, bored, angry males. They need either to get another job, or sell the place, or realise that they are mistaken. Being cross and impolite and monosyllabic ("is this wine good?" "yes." "does it go with this fish well?" "yes. Is good.") does not behove what a restaurant actually is. It is obvious - patently - that in fact they have no knowledge (as other reviews about the distinction between types of fish prove) about food or restauranting. Probably inherited it, and hate it, but have no training or interest in moving on. Think about it guys. We're not "making it up. This is real.

Having read a number of reviews four of us decided to visit thee Regatta on 29th May 2010. Our reception was friendly but our first impression was that the restaurant was spoiled by the dull decor. We were pleasantly impressed by the menu and specials board and our starters were quite good. In fact the calamari was very good. Unfortunately the sea bass which followed was a disaster. very much overcooked with dry and inadequate lobster sauce. I returned my bass and my complaint was swiftly dealt with and the dish replaced. (My companions declined to make a fuss) This time the bass was better and the sauce was fresh. Why could it not have been like that in the first place?
However when it came to the bill we found that we had been overcharged for the food and that 12.5% service was added, whilst the service was pleasant it did not warrant that much. On querying the bill we were told that we had been served 'White Bass' which was more expensive. As there was no sign of the extra charge on the menu we declined to pay. We were told by an embarrassed member of staff that the owner insisted we pay. Having firmly declined, the additional charge was removed and we were presented with a correct bill. I feel that they tried to charge us for a plate which had been returned and were hoping that we would not notice. Incidentally someone should tell the owner that white bass is a freshwater fish and not sea bass as advertised. In all the staff were friendly but the restaurant and food were dull and uninspiring, the general quality of the food was poor. I saw other people eating lobster which was so overcooked it was crisp. People giving positive reviews of the Regatta should get out more. We will not be back.

Lets deal with this so called review from the view of the proprietors, I clearly remember this table.1. The Sea Bass we offer are the best line caught wild bass , not some inferior farmed version and this is clearly stated on the blackboard with a small supplement charge of an extra three pounds to cover the market price for this superior fish, the customer sent their fish back having tried a tiny morsel from the tail section, the thinnest part of the fish , there was nothing wrong with the fish it was cooked on the point actually, but it was replaced in any event.2. We make our lobster sauce in house every day , how can a wet sauce be dry?3. How can this person comment on seeing a dish at another table and report here that it was crisp and dry?4. The service charge is 12.5% the average for quality restaurants in London, perhaps these people should get out more.5. We offer a two course a la carte fresh menu for 19.95 plus blackboard specials hardly expensive! We are very proud of our cooking and our buying is daily and sparkling fresh, hardly dull in fact the opposite. Unfair, pathetic review, we suggest your readers come and try for themselves they will not be disappointed.

oops, Regatta. If you "get cross" with your customers - like Colin here - you break the fundamental rule of restauranting. Oops. Um. Think?

I had occasion today to have lunch with my daughter at the Regatta. I found the meal to be excellent, the service extremely friendly and the whole ambiance of the establishment added to the enjoyment of lunching there.
I will no doubt be returning.
Thank you

I can only assume that the last reviewer adopted the crass attitude and language she uses in her posting towards the staff in the first place, hence their attitude. As a regular visitor to Regatta I have never failed to be impressed and the frequently changing specials board means you don't get fed up with the same old menus as you do with every other local restaurant, who even seem to rotate the same 'specials' menu so they are hadly special at all! Great value for the best food in the area.

my language was accurate and articulate. and "no", i did NOT use any such language in our dealings with staff. we were shocked from the get-go. we were polite and tolerant - indeed, most of the time we were silent, stunned - of the rude and inconsiderate nature of the male staff. if they want to do another job, they should go do it. ridiculously ineffective. please: re-think your restaurant. (it's obviously the staff who've posted the objectioning reviews here). just re-think it. make it better. it's NOT hard to be polite.

An utter disgrace. Male staff are utterly uncommunicative, rude, and anti-social. Food is adequate, though overpriced for its quality. Female staff are helpful and talkative, though. Its music is crass, loud and ludicrously chosen.

Do Not attend this restaurant - it is an utter disgrace. We were ignored, told off (YES, literally told off), and treated like intruders from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Me and my partner were shocked beyond any experience we had ever had in any restaurant in london or england.

Please - consider very carefully when thinking of popping over to Regatta. You will be sorely disappointed.

What an inaccurate review of what is without doubt one of the best eating out establishments in London.

Please read all the other reviews and make your own mind up on visiting this great restaurant clearly these people have other another hidden agenda in writing this rubbish !!

The proof of the pudding is in the eating......... I strongly suggest to all foodies that you try out Regatta especially the Wild Sea Bass I chose on a packed out Saturday last , under -pressure and with a full house the staff could not have been more attentive and the food was simply perfect.
Oh I loved the music selection some vintage Sinatra and jazz piano
Well done Regatta !!

May 2010 your review was totally in-line with our dismall experience in October 2011 - nothing has changed - the male staff are incredibly rude. Can’t comment on the deserts or coffee as we couldn’t wait to get out as quickly as possible. The only entertainment was watching diners at other tables complain and send their food back as it was cold. The cost ? £35 per head which included 1 cheap quality bottle of red wine between us all. Never again!

Absolutely fabulous food and surroundings the star chef actually came out from the kitchen and chatted to us about the fresh fish on offer with great enthusiasm. We will definitely be returning probably the best restaurant within twenty miles , just try it out , also great value two course a la carte menu at 19.95 everything on the menu!
