Bearing the popular British Chef’s signature, Gary Rhodes Twenty Four restaurant is located in the City worker’s playground within the tallest City of London building; Tower 42. With a Michelin star to its credit, Rhodes Twenty Four offers spectacular views across the metropolis and the perfect backdrop to enjoy tantalising British classic dishes that head chef Adam Gray has specially created.

The Venue
Rhodes Twenty Four is located on Old Broad Street, a 10-minute walk from Liverpool Street station. Whilst you can’t miss the tall and imposing Tower 42 building, some may question why Gary Rhodes chose this commercial block to host his award-winning eatery, especially as guests have to make their way through a maze to get to the actual restaurant. However, the climb is very worthwhile as, once inside, you will be simply amazed by the breathtaking birds-eye views across London at some of its greatest monuments – St Pauls Cathedral, the London Eye, the River Thames, and beyond.

Rhodes Twenty Four is split into two sections: the sprawling bar, with a large selection of premium drinks and inviting low leather armchairs; and the restaurant, with its intimate dining tables. The bar, with its soft lighting and low-tempo background music, is informal yet private – couples or groups can enjoy drinks and light snacks in comfortable leather armchairs and serenely watch the city beneath them pass by. The restaurant is a delight and diners automatically feel invited by the warmth and pristinely-laid tables, with their shining cutlery.

The Atmosphere
Although there is no strict dress code, you’d feel out of place dining at Rhodes Twenty Four in jeans and trainers. The friendly staff are very professional and exert the highest level of customer service to ensure that diners are comfortable. The menu is clear and perfectly laid out, detailing the sumptuous ingredients in each dish. The diners are a mix of young urbanites mixed with older couples and business appointments, and conversations can flow with ease without the intrusions of other noise, thanks to the clever positioning of each table. Big groups or parties are not recommended given the highly intimate setting that has been deliberately created.

The Food
Although somewhat limited in selection, your palate will be delighted by the delicious flavours and presentation of each dish on offer. Starters may be considered steep with prices starting from £9–£18, but it is worth every penny. The glazed lobster omelette thermidor is simply divine with the custard-texture of the omelette and bite-sized chunks of the strong distinctive flavours of lobster served in a miniature pan. The pan fried scallops are absolutely gorgeous; each fresh piece seared to perfection - filling every mouthful with its firm yet fine texture of the delectable shellfish - served with creamy mashed potatoes and a rich shallot-mustard sauce that complements the dish nicely.

The mains are also a delight with prices ranging from £17–£30. The roasted sea bass is incredibly soft with its melt-in-the-mouth full and fresh flavours and delicious red wine shallots to complement. The pan-fried lamb cutlets (for two) are simply gorgeous with its off-the-bone soft texture, complemented by the tantalising flavours of sage and black pepper – highly recommended.

If you still have room after two appetising courses, no surprises that the desserts also follow the British classics theme with warm and cinnamon-rich bread and butter pudding, creamy vanilla and passion fruit creme brulee, or the house special of spotted dick covered in sweet-smelling custard. They satisfy and complete the entire meal with prices from £8.

The Drink
The wine list at Rhodes Twenty Four is comprehensive and includes from both old and new world wines. Prices are relatively expensive, although not surprising for a venue of this calibre, with only varietals under £20, and up to £90 for a bottle. However with a range of 70 wines to choose from, there is one to suit every tastebud and budget.

The Last Word
The prices reflect the whole experience. If you’re looking for somewhere special to dine, Rhodes Twenty Four will treat you to stunning and breathtaking views of London whilst you enjoy your classic British meal, carefully prepared by head chef Adam Gray and his team for your pure enjoyment.
