Visited Rhodes for a business very informal lunch last week and we had a fantastic experience: the food seems innovative yet tastes delicious and just right.I would suggest you try the £55 menu which lets you taste an array of small dishes, all more tastier ones than the others. The plum triffle is to die for and the selection of cheese is mouth watering and the Maltese waitress is exceptionally well informed on cheese. The service is attentive yet not as intrusive and in your face ( like at Gordon ramsay's MAZE for instance) and the decor and ambience is fab: velvety touch, gorgeous mirrors and the crystal lamps are totally glamourous and classy. Everyone was impressed. You've got to experience at least one, especially if it's the boss who pays! ;-)

I could not fault my recent visit to Rhodes W1. Despite being a novelty restaurant, the customers needs still seem to take priority. The restaurant is set within a spacious, open plan banqueting style hall warmed with deep reds and purples, giving a relaxed, sophisticated feel.

The service was attentive and polite without being intrusive and the food was proof that simple dishes are the best. A blend of traditional British with modern European, the dishes were of ample size and were delivered with inviting colours, flavoursome aromas and non-pretentious presentation. As for the taste, everything I had was fantastic.

I would highly recommend the scallops which were cooked to perfection. The duck main course is also a must – tender and juicy and served with sweet cranberries and crunchy pak choi. The pecan cheesecake wasn’t too bad either. Needless to say, I left Rhodes W1 smiling.

If there was a lower score available for Rhodes W1 I would have selected that. The special was cod and chips - which at first bite was, I confess, delicious. The second cut into the fish revealing raw batter mix. On calling the waiter I was informed that this was in fact Tartare sauce inside my fish! The manager came over and declared that it was tartare sauce and I was mistaken and the food was cooked. So much for the pungent smell of raw batter mix and the customer always being right.

In the end I could not be bothered arguing with them any longer and simply left hungry. All in all Rhodes W1 was a total let down, which for a birthday dinner was more than a little disappointing. The service was rude, antagonistic and totally unacceptable.

I’m usually very sceptical about celebrity chef restaurants and Gary Rhodes is definitely not my favourite, what with all that odd spidery hair! Anyway, Rhodes W1 upon my visit was a pleasant surprise; I had a fantastic steak that I really enjoyed.

I do think, however, that the service needs to be looked at.
