I just had my engagement drinks here on Saturday night (28 June 2008), and it was a brilliant venue. I booked the 30 person private room, but we had the restaurant completely to ourselves - they definitely don't get much weekend business due to their location in the City.

We asked them to keep bringing out platters of food for the first hour or two. The tempura and sushi was superb, as was the service. They set up a little bar for us, the drinks flowed very freely, and very soon the karaoke machine was getting a serious work out.

If you need to be surrounded by new and gleaming decor Ribon is not for you. If you are after excellent Japanese food, and (from my research) the cheapest karaoke venue that holds a large group in central London - this is the place.

Ribon never disappoints. From the kitsch 1980s Japanese decor to the authentic karaoke - many a good night can be had in Ribon. The food is great and they serve authentic Japanese drinks. The owner is the most adorable Japanese lady you'll meet this side of Fukuoka.

One thing I like about this hidden gem is that it never seems to be too busy, especially at the weekends. However, I feel obliged to let everyone know about the wonderful, wonderful place. Go as soon as you can. You'll love it!

Have lunch at Ribon quite a lot and I have to say that the sushi is superb. If you like Japanese food you should definitely try Ribon - it's a lot better than some of the well-known Japanese places round here.
