Perfect for lazy, mid-week lounging or lively weekend outings with cocktails until the wee hours of the morning, Rinky Dink is a refreshingly unique destination. The VenueRinky Dink is a standout venue on Clapham High Street. Small and friendly, weeknights at this venue are relaxed affairs while weekends see the crowds come in off the high street for the late opening hours, casual atmosphere and cheap cocktails.
There are plenty of comfy couches to curl up on, or you can perch on one of the picnic tables outside – although it can be challenging finding a free seat on a Saturday night. A slight downfall are the toilets – there is only small ladies, so plan well ahead!
The AtmosphereThe wallpapered walls, dim lighting and shabby-chic eclectic collection of furniture create the feeling that you’re lounging in your mate’s living room. It’s not too polished or trendified, simply offering a friendly haven in which to have a good time.
This bar lacks the unjustified pretension of some other Clapham late-night haunts, and no arrogant bouncer will stop you at the door and ask you to pay a cover charge. Weekend nights often see the creation of an impromptu dancefloor - DJs play a funky mix of house and indie every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm and, since the bar stays open until 2am, it’s a great place to stumble to when your previous drinking spot has closed.
The FoodThe hordes don’t come to Rinky Dink to eat, but if you must there is a pizza kitchen open until 10pm. Pizzas are standard fare at reasonable prices and great for mid-week dinners.
The DrinkBilling yourself as a late-night cocktail bar means you need to have good recipes up your sleeve. Cocktails are basic but there are some great happy hours. The bar at Rinky Dink is well stocked with the standard fare, although the mojitos are a specialty. You might wait a little while for your drink, but sipping it while relaxing on the friendly sofas is worth it.
The Last WordWhile Rinky Dink is a little too small to spend an entire night in, it’s a funky place to visit for a few drinks on your journey. If it’s just a casual mid-week drink you’re after, definitely put it on the list.
