What should have been a meal for a small family to celebrate a special occasion turned out to be quite a disappointment.
The food was comparatively good, the ambience was relaxed with an entertainer singing authentic songs but what spoilt the evening for us was the owner/staff who tended to be pushy to the point of being a little rude.
We felt that we were constantly harangued to order, eat and then leave, although the restaurant was not full and did not have any bookings after we left a little after 9.30pm.
We therefore could not fully relax, and felt a little suppressed as we were constantly looked upon by a member of staff.
On the whole the experience for us was quite unpleasant and we left dissatisfied and feeling that they were not deserved of the service charge on a bill of over £350.
The number for this restaurant is 020 8 998 9812 if you want to book a table, not the number above.
It's an ok place if you're not pushing the boat out, honest food, friendly service, they've been there for years, our daughter used to attend the same school as their daughter 20 odd years ago.
So we know that the standard has been kept up. If you're local and don't want flash this is the place, laid back, good food, decent wine, and you won't be ripped off as you are in town.
Hadn't been to the Belvy for a while due to work abroad. The decor had changed, long gone the celeb photos and Italian chintz.
I was disappointed as this gave the place some atmosphere. However having had a return visit I must compliment the owners on having the vision to change because it now has that warm ,light Mediterranean feel about the place, very light and fresh.
The food has improved and the pasta, home made and all the ingredients are fresh, talking to one of the waiters I understand that they grow all their own vegetables locally.
The music has changed and there is a lovely buzz about the place on Fridays. If you get the chance try and get there to hear the local Italian families sitting and talking putting the world to rights.
I know eavesdropping is rude, but the conversation was magical. Close your eyes and you could have been in any ristorante in southern Italy.
A favorite with me and I will return.
We were put at a table near the window, which was very cold and had water dripping down it! We waited a long time for the drinks order to be taken, then these duly arrived, but not with our lagers, which we had to wait another 10 minutes for.
When the main courses arrived, my friend's was not what she asked for but she ate it as she was hungry. The sauce that accompanied her meat was over flavoured with pepper and my veal could have been cooked a bit more.
The service at Ristorante Belvedere was awful as it was so slow. And we cannot wait for the smoking ban as the people on the table next to us continually smoked throughout our meal.
We wanted to take out the service charge, but couldn't and we were also charged a cover charge, which must have been for the stale rolls they served at the beginning of the meal. I would not recommend Ristorante Belvedere to anyone.
I love Italian food and Ristorante Belvedere gets the thumbs up from me! Beautiful dishes (particularly the seafood) and there's just a lovely feel to the place.
Can't wait to try some more of the food at Ristorante Belvedere!
