Would have to agree with most other reviews here, in that the location is very nice but the food was very very bad. I would not recommend this place at all. The service was Ok but only just. Avoid.

We've been to the Riviera on Saturday night and were very suprised by the fact it looked really empty compared to the pizza restaurant just opposite the street.
The surprise did not remain unjustified though, service was mega slow, and not welcoming at all, plus prices are defintely quite high for what was in our plates... This restaurant is in my 'to avoid list' for sure.

hi i am writing you regarding your review of riviera restaurant, I had worked in both places first in riviera and gourmet pizza wich is just opposite . I can say that they both belong to pizza express so if you want to make a formal complaine you should contact the head office of pizza express. I am aware of the fact that in riviera they are selling the same linguine al pesto, frozen mussels and frozen chicken for salads for an higher price than gourmet pizza but it is all the same .

This was a big disappointment! Poor food and poor service!

I had eaten here a couple of years ago with my mum and we had a nice meal so i decided to go back there when i was repaying a friend for a meal he had bought me.

I was disappointed to see that the menu was still the same as it was two years ago. I had a starter of seasonal vegetables which turned out to be chewy aubergine and soggy courgette and peppers which i couldnt finish.

I had the same main as last time and thought i was safe - but i was wrong! The squash was soggy and overdone and for some reason they had put in a new addition to this dish - more soggy peppers. Again i couldnt eat this.

My friend fared slightly better with a steak but it was very average! The service was very slow and we felt like we were an inconvenience to the waiter.

The only good thing was the cheese plate at the end which was the only thing that they didnt need to make themselves!

My friend had previously taken me to a fantastic restaurant and i was embarrassed to repay him by taking him to Riviera!

The bill of £65 was very overpriced for what we got.

I have to say the single most depressing evening of my life, having decided to go out we had the worst meal ever!
For starters, my partner had the salmon salad and asked if it had peppers because she is allergic and was told no. When it came there were peppers. For the main course from the limited menu I had the burger which was clearly pre prepared but still looked raw, the chips weren't well cooked and had manky salad on the side cost £11.75 (I would expect better).

Then, having sat and waited for 50 mins trying to get someone's attention we asked for the bill and explained why I hadn't eaten the food. There was no real apology (however, they did remove it from the bill). I was then shocked to see the bill still came to over £60 for an average bottle of wine, two starters and one main. To begin with, I couldn't understand why there was a queue for the restaurant next door when they had a choice of tables for us, now I do!

I had a really disappointing dinner at the Riviera Restaurant. Although the view is great and the service friendly, the food quality is average or even below that. The mussles were loosely swimming in a boring tomato sauce. The butternut squash was all right, but part of it was burnt. The pine seeds should have been roasted and it had too much olive oil on top. The burger was good, but nothing exceptional. The fries were mediocre (soggy) at best and the side salad was a disaster. The dessert (chocolate ice bomb) was totally uncreative.
Overall, the food was definitely not worth its price.

The Riviera Restaurant is in a great location, but sadly, the quality of food on my recent visit was depressingly poor. I ordered a plate of mussels with garlic, tomato and chilli sauce, but received over-cooked mussels unattached to their shells, in a cream sauce. I then made the mistake of ordering the cheese platter, which consisted of a couple of bland, rubbery pieces of herbal cheese, accompanied by ginger-nut biscuits and a mountain of wet lettuce.

To their credit, the management did not charge for the mussels, but I left with the impression that Riviera Restaurant is a business which trades on its favourable location, rather than on its product.

Riviera Restaurant is a nice, tidy, modern place with a swanky Mediterranean feel. It's not too pricey and at the right time of early evening, the backdrop of the Thames and London make the whole experience of Riviera Restaurant all the more worthwhile.

On the whole I was very disappointed with Riviera. The views of the river and the South Bank are fantastic but the food and service was below average, which was a real shame.

The menu was limited and rather out dated (with a 1980's Mediterranean vibe), I had phoned ahead to check there were plenty of vegetarian options and had been told there were, yet they were actualy very limited. The polenta, mushroom and gorgonzola dish was far too heavy as a starter and the mushrooms were fairly bland. My main course asparagus risotto was quite nice, but far too heavy after the bulky starter.

The service was friendly but awful. The restaurant was only half full, yet our waiter tried to give us desert before our main course had arrived and then we waited 30 mins to try and order our dessert at the end of the meal. With a fabulous location on the river, Riveria only really has the right to be amazing, and it sadly is not.

Food was excellent. However staff were rude and unhelpful and service was very slow for early evening. We had a very long wait for main courses and had to ask waiting staff several times when the food would arrive.
