The ViewLondon Review

Covent Garden; famous for its market, street entertainers and bars, is a heaving tourist spot and a wonderful place to spend a day or night in town – especially in this gem of a bar.

The Venue
A little out of sight by day, as darkness creeps across the piazza, so too do the crowds and you won’t be able to miss the queue for Roadhouse, just off of the market square.

Once inside, you walk through the subway and are magically transported out of London and into a full blown American diner with a trendy twist. Picture the full-circle-skirt frivolity of a retro diner; add dark wood, moody red lighting and cool cocktails and you’ve got Roadhouse. The whole place is draped in American signage and even a set of traffic lights - perhaps for when one of the three bars gets a little too chaotic. There is plenty of seating, whether you want to be at a table for dinner or propped up on a stool with a drink, and there’s even a small dance floor.

The Atmosphere
There is no denying that Roadhouse is gimmicky but it still manages to be so very cool. You’re compelled to watch the cocktail waiters do their funky tricks, whilst wondering whether the Harley hanging above the bar is real. The staff are friendly and seem to be enjoying themselves, which adds to the spirited vibe throughout the bar. Expect to be surrounded by a variety of people, including lots of tourists, all of whom are there for a good time.

The Food
The menu is Tex-Mex, with dishes such as quesadillas, nachos and grills. The food is averagely priced and you can come in for snacks, share platters or main meals.

The Drink
All the usual stuff here and reasonably priced for the area. Get in between 5.30pm and 7.30pm and you can take advantage of happy hour, which sees deals such as half priced cocktails, house wine and some beers and spirits.

The Last Word
The stern and serious need not apply, but if you can forgive the gimmicks, then Roadhouse is a truly fun night out.
