First, you must remember this is a vegan restaurant. I admit, the main courses can be a tad hit and miss (although the tofu tower and the red lentil kofta are very nice) but the desserts are very good!!
It's a great place to go if you fancy something a bit different - friends from abroad always love to visit here. Sadly, the staff change a bit too often (most tend to be travelling the world) so sometimes service varies - but over the years there have been a few wonderful people working there.
Try it - it's different. Just make sure you save room for dessert.
I just wanted to defend this 'busteraunt' in view of the negative reviews below.
I had a really good time there - we were a party of ten, some with fussy food requirements ('I'm gluten intolerant!' 'can I have it without tomatoes!' etc) and one of us arrived and ordered late - understandably the food did take a little while but it arrived roughly together and not cold or slimy at all!!
some of the fussier eaters weren't overly impressed by their choices - the menu isn't too descriptive so you're not really sure what your meal will be like, so i wouldn't recommend it unless you're open to vegan food and trying new things. personally i thought my food (tofu tower) was delicious, and everyone else's looked wonderful too.
the staff were really lovely and the prices were about £10 for a main meal, which seems fair given the small and quirky nature of the restaurant. i am going back and taking a friend who i know will enjoy it too!
I am never going back, what an experience for overpriced inedible vegetation food. Daylight (nighttime) robbery.
I ordered the £15 main meal - The Moroccan Bake thinking it would be a good option as I was very hungry. The "bake" came out cold and was slimy. The amount of couscous it came with amounted to 2 tablespoons and was still crunchy. I was extremely disappointed and complained but instead of the Waiter showing empathy to my disappointment quite the contrary - he informed me that it was the most popular dish in a tone of "shut up and eat it". I left my meal and as the waiter was so congenial throughout by ignoring us I decided to discount my meal by £5.
As we left, the waiters downstairs made a point of saying "bye" to us in the most sarcastic matter that I felt even more justified.
The waiter obviously went upstairs and tallied up our bill and noticed £5 missing and instead of letting it go as one of those things he ran after me to stop me and try and harass me into paying up the £5. He started insulting me "you are acting like a little girl", "all you English are the same". I laughed at him (I’m not English) and said I could stand here all night and argue but in no way was he getting £5 from me. He gave up and went back to his bus.
Location - very good nice to see the old Brewery used
Car Parking - security guard charging exorbitant rates CASH of course, this is in the evening.
Bus - fun idea but does it work? Yes for a couple I am sure but don't bother for a party, food confused, arrives cold and not cooked.
Food - Vegan (??) I ate Tempura Vegatables followed by Aubergine Tower
Tempura veg's a selection of red peppers, red peppers, a single slice of courgette and broccoli and broccoli and more broccoli with uncooked batter in the florets, it is not tempura its thick stodge batter, and a salty Asian inspired dip, most unpleasant.
Aubergine and walnut tower, I was looking forward to this but alas the aubergine was not cooked and the walnut was bitter, the couscous was hard - inedible.
Others had pizza's which went untoched as they were served cold.
Facilites - none go to another restaurant where they have some arrangements - plan in advance!
For a vegatarian restarant you would have thought that they would be able to cook vegetables.Recommend it? NO
great venue for kids. My 9 yr old loved sitting upstairs on the bus around the big table. Organic cola, chocolate cake, muffins covered in syrup. Good coffee for adults. Great experience for all made better by friendly staff!
