The ViewLondon Review

Something special has come to town – rather than the usual dull sandwich lunches for office workers, there is now the choice of something much healthier. Salade offers healthy eating in a pleasant environment with a fast and efficient service.

The Venue
Tucked away behind Green Park tube station, Salade is prominently located within walking distance from the Ritz and the Royal Academy. The salad bar is light, airy and spacious with bar stools for those who want to eat up at the bar, and tables for those who have time for a more leisurely lunch. Of course, the lunches are beautifully packed so you can also take them back to your office desk. The only problem with the Stratton Street venue is that there is no toilet on the premises.

The Atmosphere
Busy and cheerful is the name of the game at Salade, but that is testament to its success. Office workers come in quickly for a healthy lunch and then dash out again. But for those who have more time, you can still relax and sit at one of the tables an enjoy the delicious concoction your salad offers.

The Food
Salade offers a range of different salad bases to which you can add several different toppings of your choice to create a healthy meal. The concoction is mixed up in front of you in a big silver bowl with a dressing of your choice and then put in a plastic pack for you to eat either in or take away. The salad base you can choose includes crisp lettuce leaves, deli leaves, minty couscous, fusilli pasta or bulgur wheat.

To add to the salad base is a choice of more than fifty different toppings, which include succulent baby mozzarella, roasted chicken, cherry tomatoes and artichoke hearts to name but a few. The falafel makes a particularly light and crunchy addition to your salad. The choice of dressings is large, including tahini and Caesar or balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Soup is also on offer, such as tomato and basil or ramen noodle soup and if you fancy nipping in for breakfast you can have an equally healthy meal of hot porridge.

The Drink
Smoothies, power juices and boosters are all on offer apart from coffee and tea. The Wide Awake red power juice is uplifting and refreshing and is made up of apple, orange, cranberry and ginko biloba. Also refreshing and very healthy is the Super Detox drink, which consists of celery, lime, cucumber and orange.

The Last Word
It is a great relief to come to a lunch bar where you don’t have to eat carbohydrates – at Salade you can eat healthily without going hungry and without taking too much time away from the office.
