General Price Guide: Moderate - Expensive.

Location and Punters:
This family run Indian/Pakistani restaurant is located in Knightsbridge Village. It has a well-established reputation for quality Indian cuisine and aficionados go so far as to claim that Salloos provides some of the very best Pakistani fare in London. The nearest tube stations are Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge.

Atmosphere and Décor:
The cream and red colour scheme, with toning beige linen tablecloths and napkins, the carefully chosen paintings and various dried floral arrangements, all create a very comfortable and pleasant dining environment. An unusual layered-effect ceiling adds a quirky touch to this otherwise traditional setting. Staff are welcoming and efficient.

Nosh and Drinks:
The menu offers quality, traditional Indian fare. The cooking is consistently of a high standard and much emphasis is placed on using fresh ingredients and avoiding unnecessary colouring. Particularly recommended is the separate Charcoal Tandoori Grill Course. Cooked to order, it is well worth the extra 25-30 minute wait. Speciality Grills include Chicken, Lamb or Prawn dishes, served with Paratha Breads, Roti or Naan.

The range of starters from the main menu is somewhat limited, but stuffed breads and traditional soups provide an appetising start to the main meal. Apart from some tempting, slightly more unusual main course dishes, the emphasis is predominantly on perfectly prepared, standard curries, such as Chicken Shahi Kofta, Lamb Palak Gosht and an interesting curried egg dish, cooked according to an age old recipe, called Nargisi Kofta. Desserts are predictable – Kulfi flavoured with Cardamom, Lychees, or Halva. A set lunch costs from around £16. The relatively expensive wine list is fairly eclectic. There are some decent New World wines on offer. House wine costs approximately £13.

The Experience:
Visit Salloos for the cooking. Dishes prepared while you wait, from fresh ingredients are outstanding.
