San Marco is under new management (again) and I have only tried their takeaway pizza, which was good enough to make me want to try the restaurant. Good, thin crust, excellent fresh mushrooms which were something special like porcini. I ordered and asked to collect the pizza in 20 minutes. They waited until I arrived to put it in the oven so it would be fresh and hot, and when it came out five minutes later they chucked a handful of fresh rocket on top. Gorgeous. Will be back to try the regular menu.

Disappointing, I'm afraid. Chef was runnning late so restaurant opened later than usual. Despite being the only diners for a while, service was friendly, but slow. Pizzas were available but not on the menu outside (had to ask). No specials mentioned, despite a special risotto mentioned on the menu. No child menu and no small child sized pizza allowed (do they make the pizza base themselves? if they do, I don't see any reason why they couldn't make a smaller pizza.) Had to ask what drinks they had, other than wine (no menu provided for drinks.) Quality of the food was OK, but the pizzas were not the thin and crispy quality you would expect from an Italian restaurant. I asked for my son's pizza to arrive with the starter. It came later. No parmasan cheese offered with my pasta. I tried to grind black pepper into my pasta, but the black pepper grinder on my table and the one next to it were purely decorative. I should have complained, but from the catalogue of issues, I would have been complaining constantly. Luckily, they didn't add the 12.5% service charge mentioned on the menu to my (handwritten) bill and I didn't leave a tip. Won't be back.
