Had lunch here today, better than your chain restaurants, the staff aren't rude always ignore user reviews from people you leave only one user review!

I had the eel and my wife the mackerel both were good, the miso soup a tad too hot, an area they could improve but from attentive staff, reasonable food, and not too expensive.

I completely disagree with most of the other reviews, I think Satsuma is brilliant and definitely one of my favourite places to eat in London! Myself and a friend ate there last night (I have been many many times before with first timers and experienced Satsuma lovers and never a complaint) and we had a great time, the food was delicious and much better than Wagamama as you get a much wider range of food and don't feel like your eating at the Japanese version of McDonalds. The food comes out quickly and is fresh and full of flavour along with the presentation which makes it even more appealing to eat. The waiters/waitresses can sometimes be hit and miss but never rude, they are either quite quiet and serious but still attentive or friendly and chatty like the girl who served us was last night.

They do take your plates away pretty quickly once you are finished whether the other person is finished or not but personally sitting on those benches with not much room for plates and glasses and condiments it’s a blessing to have them cleared away as soon as you’re done. Even with this I have never been made to feel rushed or that they want to get me out my seat, we stayed for an extra 40mins after eating to finish our drinks and they did not harass us at all even though there was a queue at the door. All in all I say that if you have never tried Satsuma's and you are reading these reviews do yourself a favour and go try it because it is definitely worth the risk and if you love it you'll be hooked!

Truly awful - I am sad to sayDuring my twenties I was happy to spend around two thousand pounds on dining here in total. Today I went back for the first time in three years with husband and toddler in tow, hoping for a reliable relaxed dining experience. I was really disappointed and will not be going again. Although the decor and chef may be the same, everything else was about as bad as it gets. There was only one other diner there (whilst the wonderful Busaba which is up the road was heaving). My toddler decided to stay in his compact buggy as their highchair would have been too small. We chose a table which was as unobtrusive as possible to restaurant activities (or lack thereof). Five minutes later I was approached by a rude young waiter who started complaining about the buggy making it difficult for him to get to the rarely used spare till at the back of the restaurant. I know that it is only used if the place is so busy that orders and payments cannot be processed at the main till at the front. I pointed this out and he shrugged his shoulders saying that there was no way of knowing whether the place would suddenly be packed out. He had the audacity to contradict me regarding how much space my tiny buggy was taking up compared to a highchair even though he did not know his arse from his elbow wrt these types of kiddie dilemmas being a scruffy post-pubsecent student type. I said that with a toddler, we would not be there for long anyway. I had not banked on this being due to diminutive portions and hyper-inflated prices, even allowing for the fact that I had not visited in a while. They whisked away my husband's plate even before he had finished chewing the last measley mouthful - bear in mind that there was STILL only the one other customer there.

Hmmmm someone slating Satsuma across websites- I seriously think that you have been reviewing the wrong restaurant. Satsuma is very reasonably priced, with great tasting food, huge portions and generally is packed out with very friendly staff. You sure you weren't at MacDonalds or something?

I went to Satsuma on a Tuesday night with a friend - we normally go to Itsu across the road - now I am wishing we had. The staff at Satsuma were really rude and the sushi was thin and stringy. When we made a complaint about the tempura which was just a mess of mushy batter and onions, the waitress just looked at us as if we were mad!

I think it is overpriced and overrated. What was also strange is that they had seats upstairs but everyone was ushered downstairs and all cramped next to each other when there was plenty of space to spread us out so that our neighbour couldn't hear our conversation! Not impressed at all!

I went to Satsuma for my birthday with a party of nine. The food was ok with a wider selection than Wagamama and with better drinks but the service was rather poor and they acted almost as if we weren't good enough for Satsuma which we felt was rather rude of them. If you've been to a Wagamama then you'll know what to expect - it's pretty much the same kind of food, just don't expect the service to be up to much. I think I'm going to stick to Wagamama from now on as the prices are pretty much the same.

What a fantastic place. This is sort of an upmarket Wagamama japanese style restaurant with a wide variety of dishes on offer. Excellent service and a great atmosphere on a simplistic Japanese bench backdrop.

The food here is pretty good and fairly priced. If you're feeling adventurous try one of the bento boxes where you get a selection of different foods for about £15. I've been here at least 4 times in groups of at least 5 and always found the same quality of food and service. Well done....
