The ViewLondon Review
Have a taste of Italy in the middle of Covent Garden. The VenueAn Italian gelato and pastry shop located in Covent Garden, Scoop’s the first step in making gelato as popular in London as it is in all of Italy. Gelato is just like ice cream, only denser and thicker, and you can barely walk ten feet in an Italian city without passing a shop that sells it. With its commitment to organic and locally sourced products, combined with traditional Italian recipes, Scoop is poised to relegate boring old ice cream to the back of your freezer.
The AtmosphereThe funky brown fixtures and orange paint are more trendy London bar than quaint Italian paticceria, but most customers (a mix of tourists, Seven Dials shop assistants and media types) seem more inclined to grab and go than sit and relax. There are a few tables in the back if you can’t manage to eat and walk at the same time. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be room for any outdoor tables, which seems a shame during the nice weather.
The FoodClassic gelato flavours include pistachio, coffee and chocolate, and Scoop’s versions definitely do not disappoint. Fruity strawberry flavours, such as strawberry, are lovely, sharp and not too sweet. Even if it’s cold outside, don’t pass it by – there’s something about the consistency about gelato that makes it less bitingly cold than ice cream.
The DrinkThere's a vast array of teas and coffees available, plus hot chocolate, whether it's to drink in or to take away.
The Last WordAlthough it might be traditional Italian fare, Scoop and its delicious gelato are a welcome new face to London’s (admittedly relatively empty) frozen dessert scene.
