One of the biggest restaurant openings of 2007 doesn’t disappoint.

The Venue
Right in the middle of the richest part of Mayfair, Scotts is the grande dame of Mount Street. Surrounded on all sides by deluxe boutiques and museum quality antique shops, the restaurant needs to be something special to keep up. Once through the heavy iron doors you know it will be. From the amazing oyster bar (with the three metre long crustacean display) which dominates the ground floor to the private rooms in the basement, everything is top of the line beautiful, tasteful and screams luxe.

The Atmosphere
All the beautiful people in creation adorn the heavily upholstered seats, the tinkle of crystal is accompanied by the discreet swoosh of credit cards melting in the card machine. The place reeks of money, privilege and class. This is the place to bring your (high maintenance) first date.

The Food
Oysters and seafood are obviously centre stage, as Scotts made its reputation on these. The West Mersea oysters are succulent and flavourful and a real treat for oyster aficionados. The fruits de mer platter, albeit pricy, is worth the cost and the effort involved in cracking, picking and fiddling with the seafood. Other starters continue the fish theme with salted anchovies a delight, although you can get ham or rabbit on toast - wild rabbit that is. There are distinct selections of fish and meat mains with the shrimp burger and the char-grilled veal chop drawing applause for the complex flavours in one and the succulence of the other. There is a cheese and savouries menu for that important third course before moving on to unusual and delicious puddings like roasted ruby plums and more traditional offerings like treacle tart.

The Drink
A very long wine, dessert wine, aperitif, digestif and Champagne menu awaits you here - and you will enjoy reading about the Chateau Gruaud Larose whilst sipping a smooth Crozes-Hermitage. Tip top selections in all categories.

The Last Word
As part of the Caprice restaurant group you know this is going to be a good place to burn the plastic - and it is.
