The ViewLondon Review
An eclectic decor and a homely atmosphere make Shackology a great choice for a relaxed evening. The VenueShack as it's known to its regulars, is a warm venue with a pleasant mixture of contemporary and traditional features which work really well to create a unique atmosphere that sits somewhere between cafe, local restaurant and dinner at your friend's house.
Diners can sit at one of the wooden tables or choose to relax on the plump leather sofas – whatever your preference there’s a seating option amongst the cosy furnishings just for you.
The AtmosphereThis converted pub is the type of place that's easy to still mistake for a watering hole, lending it a friendly atmosphere once inside. After all, if you know about Shackology, you've got to be on a similar wavelength. It's to Shack's credit that lone diners will feel comfortable eating alone - the staff are very welcoming and the customers are equally relaxed.
A perfect place to catch up with friends over a bite to eat, there's always something taking place here from live music to tarot and palm readings. At weekends, Chiswick's yummy mummy set head here in their droves - it's very child friendly and even offers a separate children's menu, so perhaps not the best place to see off a hangover.
The FoodThe staff have taken a relaxed view when it comes to the food that they serve – should you wish to eat a starter as a main for example, they are happy to increase the portion and add a chunky wedge of bread to make it more substantial. For starters, the mozzarella, tomato and basil salad is delicious. However, the lentil soup can be a little flavourless and lack depth.
A courgette and mushroom tart for a main course comes perfectly cooked accompanied by a crunchy salad. The smoked salmon frittata makes a great healthy choice but could do with a little more salt to enhance the taste. One dish really stands out though - the sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream is absolutely divine and is guaranteed to see any plans for a diet fly straight out the door.
The DrinkThere's no shortage of liquid refreshment to wash all the food down with. They've got a fully stocked bar with a fantastic offering of wines and spirits but they also serve juices, coffees, hot chocolate...the list is endless.
The Last WordShackology offers a delicious and refreshingly healthy menu in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. If you are a local make sure that you pop in to Shack and try the homecooked food. If you’re not local, make the journey to Chiswick, it’ll be well worth it.
