We don't tip often, but it's a sign of how great our waiter was and how nice the food was that we left a large tip.

We arrived during the pre-theatre offer and my wife had the 8oz rump with chips, which she devoured. I tried the cottage pie and chips which was homemade and fantastic. The atmosphere was electric. The welcome at the front door was appreciated and very friendly and the service was really quick considering it was busy.

We waited 10 minutes for our food and it was cooked perfectly.

Good wholesome, quality food in a very nice venue. Would definitely return.

Lots of families here too, so seemed very child friendly.

Went here last night and had a really excellent time. Easy to get a table despite the busy atmos. Had the rib-eye which was a real melt-in-the-mouth moment; my friend had the pre-theatre menu so the bill was even less than thought. Beautiful waitresses too! Will definitely come back next time I'm up west. Love it. Tom Darke

Ate here on Good Friday with my family, and lets just say expectations weren't high! I'd been recommended (read:forced!) to come by an ex- of mine who is currently in a west end show - apparently its a big late night venue for all the performers/singers etc. My first thoughts on hearing the plants were that we were about to get ripped off in a horrendous red-leather and white table cloth affair. I have to say, couldn't have been more wrong! The restaurant itself looks incredible - think Gaucho-style attention to detail, crossed with Nobu-style 'wow' factor. Big high ceilings, massive windows and a real airy feeling. We came in the day time, and its pretty unusual to find a place in central London that has that much natural light flooding in. Food was good, and was surprised when my neice & nephews food was free! Apparently this is a promotion that do over Easter, but the kids menu said it also happens every Sunday - saved us £10-odd quid (or two extra glasses of wine in my mind!)the service was brilliant - really chatty and attentive. Stupidly forgot to take a copy of my bill, as usually like to name-drop good staff on these websites, but anyway she was lovely! My mum had a great 'wow' moment (being of country-stock) when the ex- introduced her to the owner (sophie, obv!) Apparently her and the other owner are around a lot and always really chatty, which I can't remember experiencing in a restaurant in about five years! Generally thought was really good - up there with Polpo as current fave restaurants in central. Oh, and should mention went back a few hours (and a few martinis!) later and met duncan james at the bar! Hot!

Last weekend was my 3 year anniversary with my husband, and we decided to take a gamble on Sophie's Steakhouse in Covent Garden.

I say 'gamble' as neither of us had been there before, besides, with a non-booking policy we had no back-up!

However, both of us had heard such brilliant reviews on Sophie's from various friends/colleagues, that we felt eager to test it out!

Firstly, I want to comment on the non-booking rule: Despite initial uncertainty on the exact timing of when I would be sat down, this idea is brilliant. All those awaiting a table were shown to the gigantic cocktail bar, where in a matter of minutes you could be drinking anything from a 10 oz Martini to a pint. The host at the door was extremely reassuring, and I felt like we were in good hands. The atmosphere was vibrantly buzzing, and within half an hour we were sat at our table. Perfect.

Sophie's A La Carte menu projects a wide range of steaks, sandwiches, salads and pies... I wanted it all. However, I thought I would romantically share the Chateaubriand with my husband. It was flawless. Cooked to absolute perfection; accompanied by an assortment of home-made sauces, fresh vegetables and the best steak chips I have tasted!

In conjunction with delicious food and fabulous cocktails, the service was attentive and charming from the moment we stepped in.

I couldn't fault my experience at Sophie's in any way, shape or form. I loved it - as did my recent 'drooling-for-steak' husband. I am even planning on having my birthday party here next month.

My family and I have just eaten at Sophies for my birthday meal and unfortunately have been left highly disappointed. The food was lame and overpriced. After having read rave reviews about the steak, we were very much looking forward to something special. But what was served up and what has been written about this restaurant are two very different things. The steaks were grissly, fatty and so chargrilled, they were verging on burnt. The jacket potatoes were hard and looked like they had been repeatedly microwaved. The childrens meal was cold and looked like it had literally been thrown on the plate. All in all a very disappointing dinning experience and one I certainly won't be repeating.

My family and I visited Sophie's last Saturday afternoon, the restaurant is stunning and had a great atmosphere so we sat at the bar and had cocktails whilst waiting for our table (I had a flavoured Martini which the bartender recommended which I am quite sure was Sparkle Pear... OUT OF THIS WORLD!!)

We sat at a cosy table near the window and were looked after by a lovely Italian girl who told us about the specials and was just generally very knowledgeable about the menu.

For me this was great as I normally ask the server's opinion and appreciate an honest answer!Anyway the food... Unbelieveable.

It was great because we pretty much all ordered different items so we shared it about so we could taste it all.

Fresh, full of flavour, amazing presentation, just, incredible!By far the best meal I have had out in a long time if not ever!

My girlfriend Sarah and I visited this restaurant last Wednesday after seeing 'We Will Rock You" at the Dominion Theatre ,and we must say we were both very impressed indeed.

We arrived just after the cut off for the Theatre Menu ,but because we had spent 20 minutes finding them they agreed to give us the Theatre menu and seated us immediately. The service from the time we arrived till we left was superb.

Marc our waiter was very informative and helpful.

We both had the Steak and it was delicious, cooked to perfection, the same can be said about all the side dishes we ate to,onion rings, fries, mash etc etc...oh and the Cheesecake desert was out of this world.

I can honestly say it was the best meal out I've ever had.Sarah and I enjoyed 2 bottles of the Prosecco wine which again went down very well indeed and complimented the meal brilliantly.

Overall I would rate Sophie's as one of the best places to eat in London not only for quality but also for the pleasant surroundings and the service.

Top notch and very well priced....What more can you ask for.

We have literally just finished our meal at Sophie's and returned to our hotel just around the corner in Covent Garden.

My husband, daughter and I totally enjoyed our meal. The children's menu was small but offered good choice.

She had a quarter spit roast chicken and fries which was moist and plentiful @ £6.95.My hubbie and I opted for the steaks. me a wonderful rib eye steak with jacket potato served with a grilled tomatoe and sourcream and butter @ £17.95.

The hubbie had the gut buster 24oz Cote de bouef @ £27.95. Both steaks were truly wonderful, they were cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth.

We also choose oinion rings - thick and crispy @ £ 3ish and icerberg lettice with blue cheese and crispy bacon dressing - about £2.50.

Then waiter bought us a caraffe of chilled water and hubbie had a bottle of Stickleback Australian wine at £20.

Talking of waiters (Ladislav) ours was polite, attentive - but not too attentive and the food arrived in goodtime. All in all we would definately go ther again and highly recomend it

With company credit card in hand and literally the pick of London's finest to choose from , we decided to head to the newly opened Sophies for a team birthday.

Our waitor was delightful, really funny and involved and had a brilliant knowledge of the menu and some spot on recommendations.

Starters came quickly and were delicious (the calamari was amazing) and we were well looked after with wine flowing and a fantastic atmoshpere.

Most of us went with steak as a main. My 8oz fillet was cooked to perfection and is possibly the most amazing steak I have had in years. The ale pie also deserves a mention - hearty, homely and fantastic flavours.

We were all quite full so decided to share a couple of desserts among us. The chocolate milkshakes were borderline orgasmic, the brownies to die for and the apple crumble divine. Topped off with coffees and a mint tea and I can truly say it was one of the best dining experiences I have had since moving to London.... So much so that when the next brought with it another Birthday, we all headed back to Sophies to do it again!

Fabulous!

My wife and I were there last Saturday. We ordered our meals just before 6 o'clock. Due to an already full house (half price off the whole à la carte menu in November!) it took more than an hour before the mains arrived, but we were in no hurry. Just being in this pleasant atmosphere with a splendid Aussie wine, waiting for the famous steaks to arrive, weighed up for the tardiness. I had my 24 oz Côte de Boeuf medium done, and my wife the Welsh lamb likewise. If the beef was a sight for sore eyes, it was all the more a treat to my taste buds and stomach too – so was it for my wife! Perhaps the best steak I've had. To top it off, Sophie herself came up to our table and took all our drinks off the bill for having us wait so long, thus reducing an already low total to a mere fantasy sum. Sophie's Steakhouse in Covent Garden is herewith highly recommended! Kari Ann & Tor (Norway)
